Chances
Air Supply(에어 서플라이) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a chance you will be there
I'd like to know the truth
I'll find it out somehow
Chances aren't too strong
A chance you will be there
Please be there alone
Help me speak of love
Chances aren't enough
Ones too good to miss
Chances aren't too strong
A chance is all there is

There's a chance you will be there
Wondering what to do
How to play my role
I'll leave it up to you
If I disguise my smile
It gives too much away
What if we can't speak
What then shall I say
Don't you be too long
Something has gone wrong
The chances are all gone

There's a chance you will be there
Wondering what to do
How to play my role
I'll leave it up to you
If I disguise my smile
It gives too much away
What if we can't speak
What then shall I say
Don't you be too long

Something has gone wrong
The chances are all gone

Overall Meaning

The song "Chances" by Air Supply is a ballad about the uncertainties of love and the fear of missed opportunities. The lyrics express the singer's desire to see someone they care about and the hesitance that comes with the possibility of rejection. The repetition of the line "chances aren't too strong" throughout the song emphasizes the theme of uncertainty and the possibility that things may not go as desired.

The first verse focuses on the anticipation of seeing the person of interest and the desire to know the truth about their feelings. The singer asserts their determination to find out somehow, but acknowledges that the chances of success may be slim. The second verse is more introspective, with the singer questioning how to play their role and wondering what will happen if they cannot speak to the other person.

The chorus repeats the idea that chances are all there is, underscoring the importance of taking risks and seizing opportunities in matters of the heart. However, the final verse takes a more melancholic turn, with the singer acknowledging that the chances may have already passed them by, leaving them with the regret of missed opportunities.

Overall, "Chances" presents a poignant and relatable portrayal of the uncertainties and complexities of love, and the ways in which fear and hesitation can hold us back from pursuing our desires.

Absolutely adore this song..born 1980 and proud..this album was on repeat at home growing up..our weekend cleaning, if you walked by the house, you'd definitely hear my mom brother and I singing at the top of our lungs..This was the one I loved most but the entire album was perfect..nothing compares to the feelings of my childhood.
