Known for her emotive mezzo-soprano voice, Morissette began her career in Canada in the early 1990s with two mildly successful dance-pop albums. Afterward, as part of a recording deal, she moved to Holmby Hills, Los Angeles. In 1995, she released Jagged Little Pill, a more rock-oriented album which sold more than 33 million copies globally and is her most critically acclaimed work to date. This was made into a rock musical of the same name in 2017, which earned 15 Tony Award nominations including Best Musical. Her more experimental follow-up album, electronic-infused Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, was released in 1998.

Morissette assumed creative control and producing duties for her subsequent studio albums, including Under Rug Swept (2002), So-Called Chaos (2004), Flavors of Entanglement (2008), and Havoc and Bright Lights (2012). Her ninth album, Such Pretty Forks in the Road, was released in 2020. Morissette has sold more than 75 million records worldwide and has been dubbed the "Queen of Alt-Rock Angst" by Rolling Stone.

I saw a documentary about her and it showed her working in the studio. She was working on the lyrics to a song and she would just let loose bawling when she'd write down something great, something meaningful to her and perhaps profound, as her lyrics sometimes are. At the time that Alanis wrote this back in 1998, she had just come out of an exile that lasted a year and half. She had went into exile to recover from the stresses of having had her first successful album, the pressures of having just finished a worldwide tour promoting it, and fans constantly asking her when the next album's coming out. Geminis don't handle stress that well. They have to have some time to cool off, which is basically what Alanis did by going to India, which she gives thanks to in the song. When her follow up did come out, songs with lyrics like this weren't expected by fans and many panned it at the time as a result. Fans expected Alanis to follow up with the same revenge lyrics that made "Jagged Little Pill" the success it became and she didn't do that. She went her own way on "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" and as a result, the album didn't have the huge sales success of her prior album.

Quite a few years ago I was given free tickets to her concert. I wasn’t all that thrilled about going but dragged myself there only to discover that it would stand to be one of the best live acts id ever seen.
She could have put in half the effort and it still would have been an adequate performance to satisfy the audiences experienced expectations correspondent compensation having gotten their moneys worth;
However, she put in such an energetic and powerful oversoul effort, giving far above and beyond what anyone could ever bargain for. I believe in the 80s they pumped farm animals with preventative medicine instead of addressing their stress and poor living conditions and their man-made hellhole life. This then resulted in hormone disruption in humans, immune system issues, cancer etc and they tried reducing the chemicals and raising animal welfare (not very successfully).
I believe "antibiotics" were a metaphor for medication you didn't need to take. Ergo addressing the real trauma.

Our generation was the last to play outside til supper and sneak out of the house at night to terrorize the neighborhood 😊 lol jk ..no cell phones, the music was THE BEST all around in every genre, and to do research papers we actually had to go to a library and look up our topic in the index rack then search for the book lol we wore flare and jnco jeans, Adidas sneakers, plastic tattoo necklace/choker (which are still around I'm very happy to say) had beaded curtains and sat on colorful plastic blow up chairs that popped after it was sat down in five times. Def a great decade and I'm incredibly grateful to have experienced it ❤

David the first 4 lines of the song, I get completely! I always wondered what was God thinking! I got so much more of the title of the song , "THANK U"! The idiom for "thank you", in reference to the first 4 lines & to the entire song/lyrics to me what her perspective is : You really must let me thank you for the friendliness, the help, the confidence, the real aid at a time of deadly danger and deadly fear which you showed me. Is she thanking God or life in general & or society? Makes most of us thankful for for the life we have. As for Alanis my favorite song that comes to memory is "IRONIC"! And in that movie "The City of Angels" she sang that song "UNINVITED"!

Sundiata Keita Especially with this song, it reminds me of a day I had in Montréal with my aunt and uncle. This song was all over the radio and I cherish that moment a lot. Music was so great. I’m glad I was there.
