Alaska Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I would gamble my life,
In hopes, one day,
I’ll find a reason to live,
Or a reason to stay,
I’ve got my friends,
They’re like my family,
But in the depths of my mind,
I crave,
I’m a broken shell,
Of what used to be,
I’m a fucked up mess,
And I’m losing sleep,
I’ve seen the sun set,
And my brother die,
I’ve seen the run rise,
And I wonder why…
Chorus
Why am I here,
Be damned if I know,
I’ve got my friends,
But have I got a soul,
I wander round,
Cause I’ve got no home,
I ask myself,
In truth,
Am I alone…
V2
I miss those days,
When I didn’t have to try,
I miss those moments,
When I dove into your eyes,
I miss the way,
We fit like puzzle pieces,
But I guess we didn’t,
Fit, completely,
So I’ll try to move on,
But my thoughts they bleed,
My heart beats fast,
When will the memories secede,
I’ve seen the sun set,
And true love die,
I’ve seen the sun rise,
And I wonder why…
Chorus
Why am I here,
Be damned if I know,
I’ve got my friends,
But have I got a soul,
I wander round,
Cause I’ve got no home,
I ask myself,
In truth,
Am I alone…
V3
And in my lonely nights,
I fell in love with the sky,
And in my lonely days,
I fell in love with the sunrise,
I lay my head,
Down on the concrete,
I take a moment to feel,
That cool and gentle breeze,
When I walk the streets,
The sidewalks tells me,
Sometimes you need to walk alone,
And love yourself,
Now I don’t know if I,
Can love, myself,
But I know that I,
Can’t rely on anyone else,
I’ve seen the sun set,
And friendships die,
I’ve seen the sun rise,
And I wonder why…
Chorus
Why am I here,
Be damned if I know,
I’ve got my friends,
But have I got a soul,
I wander round,
Cause I’ve got no home,
I ask myself,
In truth,
Am I alone…
Ending Bridge
I’ve got my friends,
But I feel so alone,
I’ve got my friends,
But I don’t have a home,
I’ve got my friends,
But I still feel so alone,
I’ve got my friends,
But I still feel so alone,
Why do I feel,
Feel so alone,
Why do I feel,
Feel so alone…
Why do I feel…
So alone?
Outro
When the sun rose,
Took me in it’s embrace,
It whispered, ever,
So softly to me,
It’s okay my dear,
We’re all alone,
And when the night came,
The moon, It spoke,
The sky it is,
It is, Your home,
It’s in loneliness,
That no one is alone…
The lyrics of Alaska's 'Alaska' delve into the melancholic and somewhat existentialist state of the singer's mind, where they are searching for reasons to live and stay. The singer feels lost and broken and is on a constant quest for something elusive, perhaps companionship, love, or a sense of belonging. They miss the simpler times when things just fell into place, but now they struggle with memories of love and true friendships that have faded away. Despite having friends, the singer still feels a deep sense of loneliness and struggles to love themselves. However, they find solace in the vast expanse of the sky and the embrace of the sun and moon, ultimately realizing that true peace lies in accepting and embracing one's solitude.
The opening verse sets the tone for the rest of the song through its raw and emotive lyrics. The use of metaphors and imagery throughout the song helps paint a picture of the singer's state of mind, while the repetitive chorus highlights the sense of helplessness and confusion experienced by the singer. The final bridge is particularly poignant with its repetition of 'I've got my friends, but I feel so alone' that makes it clear that companionship doesn't always equate to a sense of belonging. The song's melancholic and touching message is likely to resonate with listeners on a deeper level, especially those who've struggled with feelings of loneliness and isolation.

Lyrics
Put me in this box like you always do
Lock it up, stuck between the lines
And the lines get finer
Make me into something that can be understood
And play pretend good
Just like you should
And you're shuffling your feet for a beat you can eat
Just to taste it and remember that you never liked meat
And now you're wasted, suddenly vacant
Apparently, going nowhere, stopping for nothing
You'll never be
Ooh, how do you discern the two?
To find a side, to find being
Cruel, so cruel
It's black and it's bright and it's feeling good
So how did you find that being?
Well, you put me in this box like always
Throw the key, eyes in naked skies
And the guise gets blurry
Make me into something that can be understood
And play pretend good
Just like you should
And you're shuffling your feet for a beat you can eat
Just to taste it and remember that you never knew me
And now you're jaded, apparently a fake it was, apparently
A lesson I was given on day one, you'll never be
Ooh, how do you discern the two?
To find a side, to find being
Cruel, so cruel
Who do you think you are?
Who are you?
And how did you find being?
And you're shuffling your feet for a beat you can eat
And you're shuffling your feet for a beat you can eat
And you're shuffling your feet for a beat you can eat
And you're shuffling your feet for a beat you can eat
