The first of two collaborations captured for television [3]. It was recorded for one of a series of live television sessions recording the performances of various artists. The TV show was called In Session. An interesting aspect of the album is that it includes short audio segments of the banter between the artists between songs (remembering that this was being broadcast as well).
Initially King wasn't going to do the show as he didn't know who Stevie Ray Vaughan was. He didn't realize that Stevie Ray Vaughan was actually 'little Stevie', the 'skinny kid' that he let sit in when King played in Texas. On one of the conversation tracks, King actually talks about this. When he realized who Stevie Ray Vaughan was, he agreed to play.
The album's material is mostly King's concert line up, with one Stevie Ray Vaughan cut, "Pride and Joy." King is 'driving' the session, but he purposefully features Vaughan on a number of the songs.

Albert King's blues classic "Call It Stormy Monday" is a soulfull song that speaks about the struggles and hardships of everyday life, where you may very well feel defeated or lost. The title of the song refers to the dread associated with Mondays, and the snappy jumping melody starts the tune off on a classic blues note. However, the lyrics connote that Tuesdays could be just as bad, while Wednesday and Thursday can even be worse. The tone and mood of the song are conveyed through King's mournful voice, and the lyrics are a representation of the gloom and despair that one might feel during tough times.
The lyrics then shift with the next verse as the mood lightens, where King notes that on Friday, the eagle flies, and on Saturday, he goes out and plays. This could be interpreted as the notion that the weekend is the time to put worries aside and release some tension. On the seventh day (Sunday), King rest and will kneel down to pray. The final call for mercy could be seen as pleading for a positive outlook or solution. King hopes that someone can help him in his times of need and return his lover to him.

A great debate once raged in heaven. It was over a most beautiful and precious new soul that God had created. The angels debated what should be done with this soul. One group of angels demanded that this soul remain in heaven. "He is too pure, too holy to face the ugliness of the lowly world," they said. "Who knows what will happen to him in a world of temptation and evil. This soul must stay with us here."
But the other group of angels said the exact opposite: "Indeed this soul glows with a unique divine glow. But for that very reason he must go down to earth. For imagine the beauty and goodness this soul can bring to a dark world. What good is there in keeping such a soul in heaven? Let him descend to earth and shine his light there."
And so they argued back and forth, each side unshakable in their view. Until it became clear that they could not resolve the issue themselves, they needed a Higher Authority. The case was brought before God Almighty. The angels stated their arguments before the heavenly court. God listened to the two opinions -the first group of angels arguing that this unspoiled soul is too holy to be plunged into the lowly world, the second countering that the world needs such souls more than anything.
And this was God's response:
"Indeed, it is sad to send such an immaculate soul into such a dark world. But this is My will. I only created darkness so souls like this one can transform darkness into light. The whole purpose of creation was that the lowly world be refined by the good deeds of mortal human beings. This cannot be achieved by souls in heaven. It can only be achieved through souls in bodies. And so even this most perfect and pure soul must descend to earth."
The first group of angels, who requested for the soul to remain in heaven, were disappointed. They couldn't fathom how such a spiritual being could be expected to survive such a physical world. God turned to them and said, "As for your request to keep this soul up here, I will grant it partially. Though he must leave us and go down to earth, it will not be long before he will return to us. His time on earth will be brief. Such a brilliant soul will not need long to fulfil his mission. Soon he will be free to come back to heaven."
God then turned to the second group and asked, "Are you satisfied with that? Do you accept that this soul can only be on earth for a limited time?"
The angels replied, "Yes we do. Every day that Stevie Ray is on earth is a blessing."
When a loved one passes away, we feel we have lost something precious. We are left with a gaping hole in our heart, and we often wonder why they were taken away from us. But at the same time we can be grateful for the very fact that they were given to us in the first place. We are blessed to have such beautiful souls in our lives. The world is privileged to have such heavenly guests come down on earth. And even if it can only be for a short while, we will take whatever we can get.
In time all souls will be reunited. In the meantime, let us be thankful for the gift of every day.

The great thing about Stevie Ray was that he stayed humble and gave a lot of the credit for his knowledge of the blues to the greats that he watched and idolized..like Albert and BB king and many others. If you listen close to how he plays...you can hear the influence of those old blues men in his style. It doesn't get any better than this...very cool
