Alceu Valenca was born in countryside Pernambuco, Northeast Brazil. He is considered the most successful artist in achieving an aesthetic balance between traditional northeastern Brazilian music and a broad range of electronic sounds and effects from pop music. One can find traces of maracatu, coco and "repentes de viola" (improvising fast-paced Brazilian folk music) in most of his songs. Alceu was able to utilize the electric guitar the electric bass, and lately even a synthesizer was added to his broad scope of musical instruments.
Because of that, Alceu was able to recreate Northeastern traditional music, like baiao, coco, toada, maracatu, frevo, caboclinhos, embolada and repentes: all sung with a sometimes rock sometimes alternative sounding music background. His music and his themes are intangible, universal and unlimited. However, his aesthetic basis is genuinely Brazilian Northeastern music.

Quando te vê
Porque você é meu único e definitivo
Poema
Daí meus dedos batucarem ritmos
Escrevendo teu nome, tatuando teu
Peito
Pra marcar em ti minha presença
E eu vou tirar da cartola sete notas
Musicais
E tem mais
Passarinho do dia como canário
Passarinho da noite como bacurau
E caminharemos pela rua do Amparo
Sob a Lua de São Jorge
Nos protegendo do mal
O meu verso...
...protegendo do mal
E depois de acrobata...
The lyrics of Alceu Valença's song "Cambalhotas" depict a deep admiration and affection towards someone special. The singer's words come to life with excitement and enthusiasm, as their verses leap and somersault upon seeing this person. It is clear that the subject of the song holds a significant place in the singer's heart as they refer to them as their "only and definitive poem."
The intensity of their emotions is further expressed through the rhythmic movements of their fingers, as they drum out beats while writing their beloved's name. This action is described as tattooing their name on their chest, symbolizing a desire to leave a lasting mark and proclaim their presence with certainty.
As the singer's words continue to transform, their verses turn into magic and the imagery becomes more fantastical. They talk about pulling seven musical notes out of a hat, evoking a sense of wonder and enchantment. This suggests that the love and inspiration they draw from their beloved allows them to create something extraordinary, elevating their artistry to new heights.
The song then takes a turn, as the lyrics mention the presence of birds and the singer's intention to walk with their beloved through the streets. The comparison of their lover to a daytime canary and a nighttime nightjar (bacurau) reflects the different facets and characteristics they bring to the singer's life. This person is not only their muse but also a source of comfort and protection.
The lyrics conclude by reiterating the power of the singer's verses, emphasizing their ability to shield themselves and their beloved from harm. The acrobatic nature of their words symbolizes their strength and resilience in the face of adversity. As the song ends, it leaves the impression that the singer's poetic expressions will continue to be a source of solace and protection for both themselves and their beloved.

Essa pra mim é a frase mais legal da música. A música toda me passa uma sensação de alto astral e essa frase dá um tremendo senso de proteção. Muito legal pra levantar o ânimo.
