Shadow of the Mountain
Alda Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And we have become the insatiable hunger
Coiled around our roots
We are but dust
We are but water
Wandering this ravaged land
In the shadow of the mountain
The lyrics of Alda's song "Shadow of the Mountain" are a poetic representation of the internal and external struggles that we face in life. The opening line, "Fear enshrouds us, scattering all of our memories," is a reflection of how fear can consume us and make us forget what once mattered. The next line, "And we have become the insatiable hunger coiled around our roots," highlights how we can become so focused on our own needs and desires that we forget about the world around us.
The final stanza of the song, "We are but dust, we are but water, wandering this ravaged land in the shadow of the mountain," is a powerful statement about our temporary existence and how we are all connected to the natural world. It speaks to the idea that despite our individual struggles, we are all part of the same cycle of life and death.
Overall, the song is a profound exploration of the human condition and reminds us that we are not alone in our struggles. It encourages us to embrace our interconnectedness with the world around us and to find meaning in our temporary existence.

I live in Sardinia, an island in the middle of the Mediterranean sea. This island is very famous for its wanderful beaches. But I don't really like sea. Every summer and winter I move to a small village in a valley between the mountains, and every time I listen to this song, my spirit and my mind are teleported to that village, in the shadow of the mountains

Everytime I hear this it always reminds me of the times I visited Flagstaff and Sedona Arizona. It's a dreamlike place. I wish Alda would come to Phoenix
