The Ensemble has entertained audiences both in Russia and throughout the world, performing a range of music including folk tunes, hymns, operatic arias and popular music. The group's repertoire has included The Volga Boatmen's Song, Katyusha, Kalinka, and Ave Maria.
It is named for its first director, Alexander Vasilyevich Alexandrov (1883–1946). Its formal name since 1998 has been A. V. Alexandrov Academic Song and Dance Ensemble of the Russian Army (Russian: Академический ансамбль песни и пляски Российской Армии имени А. В. Александрова, Akademichesky ensemble pesni i plyaski Rossiyskoy Armii imeni A. V. Alexandrova), shortened to Academic Ensemble (Академический ансамбль, Akademichesky ensemble) on second reference.
On 25 December 2016, its artistic director, Valery Khalilov, and 63 other members of the Ensemble were killed in the Russian Defence Ministry aircraft crash of a 1983 Tupolev Tu-154 into the Black Sea just after takeoff from the southern resort city of Sochi, Russia. The Red Army Choir singers and dancers were en route to Syria to entertain Russian troops there for Orthodox Christmas celebrations.

The song "The Cliff" by the Alexandrov Ensemble tells the story of a cliff by the Volga River, which is covered in wild moss and has been standing for hundreds of years. Despite being dressed only in moss, it has no needs or worries. Nothing grows at the top of the cliff, except for the free and strong wind that blows there. The mighty eagle has its refuge there and preys on its victims.
One man was the only person who made it to the top of the cliff and remembered for it. The cliff has been named in his honor since then. The cliff alone remembers Stepan's cherished thoughts, and it remembers his distant life as an ataman along the Volga River.
The song is reflective of the Russian nature, where the beauty and the force of the elements coexist. While the natural world is seemingly indifferent to human life, it is also a witness to it. The song describes the Volga River and its surrounding landscape as majestic and eternal, with the cliff being a part of that landscape. The song is a tribute to the Russian spirit and their appreciation for nature and its longevity.

этот первый состав хора, который впервые спел "Вставай, страна огромная" - они были еще совсем молодыми , когда пели эту песню,прошли с Красной Армией до Берлина, пели в Берлине , а потом записали "Вставай, страна огромная" как фондовое, образцовое исполнение. Знаю об этом от своего деда-ветерана ВОВ-хор Александрова приезжал в Уральский военный округ с концертами.
Это я к тому, что по иному тогдашний состав хор Александрова народные песни петь не мог.
Сейчас так не споют - кишка тонка

Imam 80 godina. Počeo sam da volim ruske pesme pre 70 godina.
Sada od pre 3 meseca, preko interneta, opet slušam ruske pesme i sve ih više volim. Osećam bliskost srpskog i ruskog naroda. Divim se velikoj ruskoj kulturi. Mislim da počinjem da shvatam RUSKU DUŠU.

Unfortunately, you have omitted Ukraine which was attacked in 2022 and is being constantly hit by rockets by the army of one of the countries you mentioned. From February 2022 to June 2023, the UN has recorded in Ukraine over 25,000 civilian casualties including 1,624 children, 532 of whom died, with 1,092 injured. This is why I no longer enjoy any of the songs performed by singers wearing the Russian uniform.
