The band’s name is inspired by a lactating contortionist stripper named Alexis Fire. This caused problems when she discovered that they were using her website name (alexisonfire.com) as their band name, and threatened to sue. However, since she had never trademarked the title nothing became of these threats. In the end, the band decided to change their website’s URL in spite to theonlybandever.com
Alexisonfire’s lyrical topics range from relationship troubles to go-karting. They have two primary vocalists, screaming duties carried out by George Pettit, and singing by Dallas Green, with support from Wade MacNeil.
While their largest fanbase is in their home country of Canada, they also became more popular in other parts of the world, including Japan, Australia, Europe and the US. In the second half of 2010, they toured Australia with Break Even, Europe with Chickenhawk and The Computers and then Canada with Norma Jean and La Dispute.
The band was nominated for "ugliest rock band ever" at the CASBY awards (held by local Toronto radio station) but lost out to another Canadian born band, Sum 41. In 2010 they then won the "Best New Single" Award for their track The Northern.

Heading for the Sun
Alexisonfire Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Searching for somewhere to exist
Held captive by our mistakes
Weak and unable to resist
Resentful minds have ruled too long
Young and old, weak and strong
To where our freedom reigns and the old thought is laid to dust
Let the philistines wallow in their decadence
While the enlightened minds usher in the dawning of a new
We are heading for the sun
We are
We are heading for the sun
We are
We are heading for the sun
We are
We are heading for the sun
Time will come when we are all condemned
For all the damage we have done
Held accountable for all
Battles lost, battles won
We are heading for the sun
We are
We are heading for the sun
We are
We are heading for the sun
We are
We are heading for the sun
And the earth will coil each year, getting closer to its end
What will our lesson be, when we are all ablaze?
That our benevolence was the start of our decay
Or that we did not learn from the mistakes of the past?
We are heading for the sun
We are
We are heading for the sun
We are
We are heading for the sun
We are
We are heading for the sun
"Heading for the Sun" is a song that speaks to the consequences of our actions and the inevitable end of humanity. The opening lines refer to a lost generation seeking a place to exist and being held captive by the mistakes of previous generations. The resentment towards these mistakes has ruled for too long, affecting both the young and old, weak and strong.
The following lyrics express the need to move forward and leave behind the old ways of thinking. The enlightened minds will usher in a new era of freedom, while those who continue to wallow in their decadence will be left behind. The repeated phrase, "We are heading for the sun," could be interpreted as a metaphor for striving towards a bright and hopeful future.
However, the final verse takes a darker turn, acknowledging that humanity is inevitably headed towards its end. The earth is moving closer to its demise each year, and we will all ultimately be held accountable for the battles we fought and the damage we caused. The song leaves us with questions about the lessons we will learn from our downfall - will we recognize the consequences of our benevolence or continue to repeat the mistakes of the past?
Overall, "Heading for the Sun" is a contemplative and thought-provoking song that urges us to consider the impact of our actions and strive towards a better future.
