The band’s name is inspired by a lactating contortionist stripper named Alexis Fire. This caused problems when she discovered that they were using her website name (alexisonfire.com) as their band name, and threatened to sue. However, since she had never trademarked the title nothing became of these threats. In the end, the band decided to change their website’s URL in spite to theonlybandever.com
Alexisonfire’s lyrical topics range from relationship troubles to go-karting. They have two primary vocalists, screaming duties carried out by George Pettit, and singing by Dallas Green, with support from Wade MacNeil.
While their largest fanbase is in their home country of Canada, they also became more popular in other parts of the world, including Japan, Australia, Europe and the US. In the second half of 2010, they toured Australia with Break Even, Europe with Chickenhawk and The Computers and then Canada with Norma Jean and La Dispute.
The band was nominated for "ugliest rock band ever" at the CASBY awards (held by local Toronto radio station) but lost out to another Canadian born band, Sum 41. In 2010 they then won the "Best New Single" Award for their track The Northern.

We Are The End
Alexisonfire Lyrics

There's no affection, only infection
Search yourself, search yourself
Can I depend on you to surrender?
And we will storm their shores
Eyes suffocating all they see
Feet sturdy on the rubble that will soon be dust
Only our unrelenting march side by side
We will comb the earth and sweep it clean
Hearts and feet unified
The hand of man is no match for our warless army
Please tell me that this is the end of the world (and we will strike with the arms of Gods)
(And leave nothing in our wake) It's time that we erase history
(And we will strike with the arms of Gods) without a trace or a memory
(On my word, we will seize fate)
Please tell me that this is the end of the world (and we will strike with the arms of Gods)
(And leave nothing in our wake) It's time that we erase history
(And we will strike with the arms of Gods) without a trace or a memory
(Destiny choked in our wage)
Steadfast soldiers with hands of Gods
And the numbers to succeed
We will persist until all that's left is a perfect sphere
Never a break in the chain
Never a folly of conviction
And may the traitors' ashes
Seal the barren landscape
We are the end!
We are the end!
Look around, look around
There's no affection, only infection
Search yourself, search yourself
Can I depend on you to surrender?
Can I depend on you to surrender?
Please tell me that this is the end of the world (and we will strike with the arms of Gods)

The lyrics of Alexisonfire's song We Are The End seem to be centered around the idea of destruction and dominance. The opening line "Look around, look around, there's no affection, only infection" seems to suggest a certain level of disdain for the world as it currently stands; and the line "Search yourself, search yourself, can I depend on you to surrender?" further implies possible motives of taking over and re-creating the world in their image. The song goes on to speak of a warless army, an unrelenting march, and a perfect sphere that will exist once all that is left is what they have allowed. The repeated plea of "Please tell me that this is the end of the world" sounds like a desire for a new beginning where the past can be erased and forgotten.
Overall, the lyrics suggest an almost apocalyptic vision where everything is destroyed and a new world is created. The idea of a "warless army" is especially interesting, as it suggests a certain level of philosophical or strategic mastery over the enemy that they plan to fight.
