Little April Shower
Alice Sixer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Drip, drip, drop
Little April shower
Beating a tune
As you fall all around

Drip, drip, drop
Little April shower
What can compare
To your beautiful sound
Beautiful sound
Beautiful sound
Drip, drop, drip, drop

Drip, drip, drop
When the sky is cloudy
Your pretty music
Will brighten the day

Drip, drip, drop
When the sky is cloudy
You come along with a song right away
Come with your beautiful music

Drip, drip drop
Little April shower
Beating a tune
As you fall all around
Drip, drip drop
Little April shower
What can compare with your beautiful sound

Drip, drip drop
When the sky is cloudy
You come along, come along with your pretty little song
Drip, drip drop
When the sky is cloudy
You come along, come along with your pretty little song

Gay little roundalay
Song of the rainy day
How I love to hear your patter
Pretty little pitter-patter
Helter-skelter when you pelter
Troubles always seem to scatter

Drip, drip drop
Little April shower
Beating a tune
As you fall all around
Drip, drip drop

Little April shower
What can compare with your beautiful sound

Overall Meaning

The song "Little April Shower" by Alice Sixer or Amy Lou Barnes or Betty Bayne or Mary Moder or Sally Mueller, is a beautiful homage to the sounds of rainfall in the spring. The lyrics describe the soothing sound of raindrops falling in a rhythmical pattern. The song opens with the repetition of "Drip, drip, drop," which sets the tone for the entire piece. The singer describes the rain as a "beautiful sound" that brightens cloudy days and scatters all troubles. The song captures the essence of the joy that comes with a spring rain.

In the second verse, the singer acknowledges that when the sky is cloudy, the rain comes along with a song to brighten the day. The rain is described as having a pretty little song that accompanies it, and it's difficult to compare with its beautiful sound. The description of the rain highlights the singer's perspective, where it's clear that the rain isn't only a natural phenomenon, but also a form of music that's celebrated for its beauty.

The ultimate verse describes the rain as a gay little roundelay, a song of the rainy day, and how the singer adores hearing the patter and the little pitter-patter of the rain. The song is a reflection of the joy that comes with spring rains, and how they can bring light and happiness to a cloudy day.

This song has been stuck in my head since I first saw this movie over a decade ago as a child. Every time April roles around, this song is on repeat in my head.

I forgot how beautiful the music was ... how they made it sound like a storm.... gentle sprinkles.. a calming rain... then the harsh thunder and wind. then back to calm and gentle as the music slows resembling the tiny drops of dew falling off of the leaves.... beautiful

yumih3art Hell, the entire score to this film is so beautiful!

i agree

@ayos2ah

It reminds me of the exercises I used to do on the piano. The falling scales are often taught to children in exercises that are almost always given a title referring to rain. It's actually a simple melody but extremely well done.
