Since coming together as a band, they cut their teeth playing numerous California dates with groups like Entrance Band, Tyde, Tijuana Panthers, and the Growlers, and have garnered the approval of original UK Psych founding-father Patrick Campbell-Lyons (Nirvana). In the Los Angeles musical community, they gained a reputation as a laid-back, grooving band with strong ties to the authentically LA-centric sounds of bands like the Byrds, Love, and early Captain Beefheart.
The group released their third album, Calico Review, on September 9, 2016. On November 3, 2017, the band released the EP Covers #1. The EP consists of four covers of songs by George Harrison, Television, Kathy Heideman, and Further. In October 2019, the band released the album LAHS.

The lyrics of Allah-Las's song "Fish On The Sand" depict a tempestuous relationship that the singer has with their lover. The opening lines suggest that the singer sees their lover as someone who is carefree, social and very much loved by everyone. However, even though the singer sees the love they share, they acknowledge that there are moments where their lover seems to have no grip on them. It's as if their lover has the ability to make the singer feel small and insignificant.
The chorus of the song is an admission of how much the singer needs and loves their partner. Without them, the singer feels lost, like a fish out of water, helpless and unable to function as a man. The second verse continues with the theme of their relationship being chaotic. The singer talks about how their partner plays games with them, causing them unimaginable pain. The singer admits that they want their partner to see their pain, yet they also want their partner to free them from it.
The final verse suggests that the singer is at their wits' end with their partner. They say that they hold their partner in their heart, but they must know that their partner loves them too. The singer wants to know for sure that their partner wants to be with them. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, emphasizing once again the singer's deep need for their partner's love and how incomplete they feel without it.
