Twelve Was Ruin
Altar of Plagues Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
rank and lodged, and paused.
And held at arms length.
With the season, comes the fathers line.
With the son, comes the fall.
A blank portrait, a son believed.
A sun was led and watch, weathered.
For the absence of light.
and speak to decide, black from south.
You were taken away, dropped and mistrusted,
burned in the sun.
PUSH AND RELEASE.
The lyrics to Altar of Plagues' song Twelve Was Ruin paint a picture of the passage of time, and the cyclical nature of life. The song speaks of chasing time, which is buried and lodged, and held at arm's length. The father's line comes with the season, and with the son comes the fall. A son is believed, but a blank portrait is all that remains, as the sun is led and watched, weathered. The absence of light is felt, and measuring where the years have brought us is a difficult task. The song speaks of deciding between black and south, suggesting that there are choices to be made, and perhaps that we are at a crossroads. The final line, "push and release," suggests that there is an inherent tension in life, and that sometimes we must push forward, and sometimes we must let go.
Overall, this song is a deeply philosophical exploration of the nature of time and the passage of life. The lyrics are poetic and vivid, painting a picture of a world in which time is both our enemy and our guide. The cyclical nature of life is explored, and we are left with the feeling that there are choices to be made, and that we are constantly being pushed and pulled in different directions.
