A lot of bands meet as kids at school. Others come together after an over-enthusiastic conversation about music at some random party. Aluna Francis and George Reid however, met through the internet.
While their online encounter is more MySpace than Match.com, it was in fact through a mutual respect for each other's work that led them to go on to form AlunaGeorge. Now together for just barely a year, the talented duo have been churning out a series of infectious mixes which fuse Francis' sweet vocal harmonies with the hushed electronic stylings courtesy of Reid.
Having already caught the attention of Rob da Bank who championed their initial collaboration Sweetheart on Radio 1; they've since succeeded in initially tapping the American market having had a track featured in the US series of Skins earlier this year. Now this month sees the release of their debut AA single Analyser/ We Are Chosen, two impressively mastered melodies of sensual synths complemented by Francis' contagious vocals which evoke notions of the likes of Shanks and Bigfoot, yet at the same time remain utterly unique.
Best Be Believing

When I do everything you tell me not to do
When you turn the corner you built for me
You can bet it's way too good to be true
So you say, you can see through the cracks of my pain
There's a satellite image like a map of my brain, my brain
Too many voices telling the ones that need to be
I, I must turn it down, turn it down
Everyone's gonna get their chance
So there's no need to feel lost
Storm the crowd, turn me up, turn me up
Turn me up, turn me up
You best be believing, best be believing
Best be believing, best be believing
Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah
You best be believing, best be believing
Best be believing, best be believing
Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah
If that's all you really wanted to be
Better brace yourself for the hurricane we deliver
Best prepare for the winter
We can wake up the dead with the fury in our heads
We'll be running downstream while you're swimming up river
It'll make you shiver
Too many voices telling the ones that need to be
I, I must turn it down, turn it down
Turn it down, turn it down
Everyone's gonna get their chance
So there's no need to feel lost
Storm the crowd, turn me up, turn me up
Turn me up, turn me up
You best be believing, best be believing
Best be believing, best be believing
Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah
You best be believing, best be believing
Best be believing, best be believing
Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah
You pray I'll stay in the sun
But that's not what I'm made of
That's not what I'm made of
Now you say, I'm not sweet enough to talk
But I still got sugar, I still got sugar
I still got sugar, I still got sugar
You best be believing, best be believing
Best be believing, best be believing
Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah
You best be believing, best be believing
Best be believing, best be believing
Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah
You best be believing, best be believing
Best be believing, best be believing
Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah
You best be believing, best be believing
Best be believing, best be believing
Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah
The lyrics to AlunaGeorge's "Best Be Believing" convey a message of self-belief and confidence despite the doubts and criticisms of others. The first verse describes feeling like you're not doing things right and being told what not to do, but then realizing that the path you've taken is too good to be untrue. The chorus emphasizes the need to believe in oneself despite what others may say or believe. The second verse suggests that there may be opposition to your dreams and goals, but with determination and the right mindset, you can overcome any obstacle.
The overall message of the song is quite positive and empowering, urging listeners to have faith in themselves and their abilities. The lyrics also touch on themes of resilience, perseverance, and not letting others' opinions bring you down. The chorus features a catchy, repetitive tune that drives home the song's central message with its simple insistence: "You best be believing."
In addition to its empowering message, "Best Be Believing" features a dynamic, upbeat sound with electronic and R&B influences. The combination of the song's lyrics and its catchy, energetic melody has made it one of AlunaGeorge's most popular and well-known songs to date.
