A lot of bands meet as kids at school. Others come together after an over-enthusiastic conversation about music at some random party. Aluna Francis and George Reid however, met through the internet.
While their online encounter is more MySpace than Match.com, it was in fact through a mutual respect for each other's work that led them to go on to form AlunaGeorge. Now together for just barely a year, the talented duo have been churning out a series of infectious mixes which fuse Francis' sweet vocal harmonies with the hushed electronic stylings courtesy of Reid.
Having already caught the attention of Rob da Bank who championed their initial collaboration Sweetheart on Radio 1; they've since succeeded in initially tapping the American market having had a track featured in the US series of Skins earlier this year. Now this month sees the release of their debut AA single Analyser/ We Are Chosen, two impressively mastered melodies of sensual synths complemented by Francis' contagious vocals which evoke notions of the likes of Shanks and Bigfoot, yet at the same time remain utterly unique.

You can do what you want with me
That was the other night
When I had no will to fight
Now I won't come quietly
Lookin' out for the easy pickin'
Lookin' out for the easy pickin'
Lookin' out for the easy pickin'
Lookin' out for the easy pickin'
Don't you wanna try for someone who gets you workin'?
Guess all you wanted was a lost and found
You should've got me on the rebound
You should've got me on the rebound
Guess now my heart is beating overdrum
You should've got me on the rebound
You should've got me on the rebound
Guess all you wanted was your broken
But now you're looking over me, boy
Guess all you wanted was a lost and found
You should've got me on the rebound
You should've got me on the rebound
You should've hacked me when I had no luck
You could've done me laid back, buckle up
Now it's another girl, didn't get no part of wisdom
Now I don't buckle down easily
Lookin' out for the easy pickin'
Lookin' out for the easy pickin'
Don't you wanna try for someone who gets you workin'?
Lookin' out for the easy pickin'
Lookin' out for the easy pickin'
Don't you wanna try for someone who gets you workin'?
Guess all you wanted was a lost and found
You should've got me on the rebound
You should've got me on the rebound
Guess now my heart is beating overdrum
You should've got me on the rebound
You should've got me on the rebound
Guess all you wanted was your broken
But now you're looking over me, boy
Guess all you wanted was a lost and found
You should've got me on the rebound
You should've got me on the rebound
Guess all you wanted was a lost and found
You should've got me on the rebound
You should've got me on the rebound
Guess now my heart is beating overdrum
You should've got me on the rebound
You should've got me on the rebound
Guess all you wanted was your broken
But now you're looking over me, boy
Guess all you wanted was a lost and found
You should've got me on the rebound
You should've got me on the rebound
At its core, AlunaGeorge's "Lost & Found" is a song about feeling used in a relationship. The singer laments being taken advantage of by their partner when they were vulnerable and unable to resist. The lyrics "when I'm falling, when I'm broken, you can do what you want with me" demonstrate the power dynamic at play, with one person exploiting the other's weakness. However, as the song progresses, the singer grows stronger and asserts themselves, declaring "now I won't come quietly." Eventually, they become frustrated with their partner's behavior, accusing them of only being interested in a "lost and found" when they should have pursued them when they were available ("you should've got me on the rebound").
The repeated phrase "looking out for the easy pickin'" drives home this idea that the singer is feeling objectified and used. They want someone who is interested in them for who they are, not just because they are an easy target. However, despite the hurt and frustration, the singer remains open to finding love again in the future.
Overall, "Lost & Found" is a raw and emotional examination of a difficult experience within a relationship. It highlights the importance of mutual respect and genuine interest in a partner, rather than exploiting their vulnerabilities.
