In 2005, Amerie burst back onto the music scene with her fourth single "1 Thing", which was used as the theme song for the Will Smith movie "Hitch". "1 Thing" went to the top of the charts in various international markets, including the US, UK and others around the world. It earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (the album "Touch" was also nominated for the "Best Contemporary R&B Album" Grammy ). The album sold an estimated 800,000 copies worldwide and went gold in the US and silver in the UK.
Amerie's third album 'Because I Love It' was released in the UK , Europe and Asia in 2007. The single "Take Control" was released in October 2006, and it enjoyed international success. The second single "Gotta Work" did not fare as well in the charts, despite receiving heavy airplay on UK and European music video channels. The album has sold a combined total of 310,000 copies worldwide and is her most critically acclaimed album.
In late 2007, was reported that Amerie had left her label Columbia Records, and signed with the Island Def Jam Music Group.
Amerie revealed the album title to be changed from 'Breakups To Makeups' to 'In Love & War'. Amerie also announced that her first single off the album will be titled "Why R U?" produced by The Buchanans. The single premiered online in the week of May 11th and received fairly mixed reviews. The track itself is even compared to Mary J. Blige's "What's The 411?" and "My Life" album, because of the old school feel.
Amerie changed her artist name to Ameriie (extra I) in 2010. She said that it gave her more positive energy as an artist. She changed her artist name back to Amerie (without the extra I) with the double EP releases '4AM Mulholland' and 'After 4AM' in 2018.
Right now her main focus is on books, youtube channel and her son and husband.

Cruisin' down Mulholland
Lookin' for an answer
To something I don't know yet
Jumped in the car I gotta let it go ah
One Eye got me on that
I think I'm catchin' blowback
Nothin' but the night and everything is right now
It's 4 in the mornin'
I know I'm gettin' started
You asked me where I'm going
I tell you I don't know yet, no
I been tryin' my whole life to make the stars align
Tryin' to make it over but first I gotta touch the sky
Sometimes I wanna be livin' it up, be livin' it up, be livin' it up, be livin' it up yeah
I try to forget, try to lose Id
Livin' it up, be drinkin' it up, be servin' it up, be livin' it up yeah
4 In the mornin'
Cruisin' down Mulholland
Lookin' for an answer
To something I don't know yet

The lyrics of Amerie's song "4AM Mulholland" depict the singer's state of mind and emotions while driving down Mulholland, a famous street in Los Angeles. The singer is searching for answers and clarity regarding something she doesn't fully understand yet. It's evident that she is feeling restless and conflicted, wanting to let go of something that is holding her back.
The mention of "One Eye" and catching "blowback" suggests that there is some external influence or distraction affecting the singer's thoughts and actions. However, in the late night city, everything feels right, emphasizing the sense of liberation and freedom she experiences during this time.
The chorus emphasizes the singer's desire to live life to the fullest and make the most of the present moment. She acknowledges that she doesn't have all the answers and is still figuring things out but expresses her determination to reach for her dreams. The lyrics reflect a sense of urgency, as the singer feels the need to beat the sunrise and embrace the opportunities that lie ahead.
Overall, the song can be interpreted as an exploration of self-discovery, the pursuit of dreams, and the willingness to let go of the past in order to move forward. It portrays the vulnerability and excitement that come with venturing into the unknown.
