In 2005, Amerie burst back onto the music scene with her fourth single "1 Thing", which was used as the theme song for the Will Smith movie "Hitch". "1 Thing" went to the top of the charts in various international markets, including the US, UK and others around the world. It earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (the album "Touch" was also nominated for the "Best Contemporary R&B Album" Grammy ). The album sold an estimated 800,000 copies worldwide and went gold in the US and silver in the UK.
Amerie's third album 'Because I Love It' was released in the UK , Europe and Asia in 2007. The single "Take Control" was released in October 2006, and it enjoyed international success. The second single "Gotta Work" did not fare as well in the charts, despite receiving heavy airplay on UK and European music video channels. The album has sold a combined total of 310,000 copies worldwide and is her most critically acclaimed album.
In late 2007, was reported that Amerie had left her label Columbia Records, and signed with the Island Def Jam Music Group.
Amerie revealed the album title to be changed from 'Breakups To Makeups' to 'In Love & War'. Amerie also announced that her first single off the album will be titled "Why R U?" produced by The Buchanans. The single premiered online in the week of May 11th and received fairly mixed reviews. The track itself is even compared to Mary J. Blige's "What's The 411?" and "My Life" album, because of the old school feel.
Amerie changed her artist name to Ameriie (extra I) in 2010. She said that it gave her more positive energy as an artist. She changed her artist name back to Amerie (without the extra I) with the double EP releases '4AM Mulholland' and 'After 4AM' in 2018.
Right now her main focus is on books, youtube channel and her son and husband.
Not a Love Song
Amerie Lyrics

Clock gonna fly
Don't hesitate don't break the moment
For so long you been on it
Yeah
I don't wanna get your hopes up
Now that you open and
Just keep it focused and
It don't gotta be a love thing
It's only physical
If you really want me and I really want you
We ain't doin' nothin' wrong
This is not a love song
Forget what you thought was goin' on
It's a new situation
This be on another elevation
This is not a lo...
This is not a love song
This is not a lo...
This is not a love song
Hands on my back, eyes rollin' back
Meet eye to eye
Don't speak don't even break the moment
'Cause this feels so good don't it
Yeah
I don't wanna get your hopes up
Now that you open and
Don't you think about tomorrow
Just keep it focused and
It don't gotta be a love thing
It's only physical
If you really want me and I really want you
We ain't doin' nothin' wrong
This is not a love song
Forget what you thought was goin' on
It's a new situation
This be on another elevation
This is not a lo...
This is not a love song (a love song)
This is not a lo... (this is not a love)
This is not a love song (song)
In "Not a Love Song," Amerie explores a relationship that is purely physical and not based on romantic love. The lyrics depict a moment of intense passion and connection between two individuals. The opening lines set the scene, with the mention of time and place, and the singer's hand on the other person's waist. The urgency of the situation is emphasized by the phrase "Clock gonna fly," suggesting that time is running out or moving quickly.
The lyrics repeatedly stress that this encounter is not about love. The singer advises the other person not to get their hopes up, indicating that this is a casual and temporary situation. They encourage both parties to stay focused on the present and not worry about the future. It is made clear that the physical attraction and desire between them are strong, but there is no intention for it to evolve into a romantic relationship.
By repeating the line "This is not a love song," Amerie underscores the central theme of the song. This is not a typical love ballad but rather a declaration of a different kind of connection. The lyrics convey a sense of liberation and freedom from the constraints and expectations of traditional romantic love. It suggests that relationships can take on various forms and still be fulfilling and meaningful.
