Lockdown
Amy Lee Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can feel you calling me
I can see the cracks between these walls
But this pain
I choke on the words as they rise in me
To survive, I lock down

I can feel you calling me
I can taste the poison in your heart
But these dreams
Blurring the line between war and peace
To survive, I lock down

Say the words
I can't face the world
If I could say the words
Everything would be broken still
We are broken

I can feel you calling me
I can see the cracks between these walls
But this pain
I choke on the words as they rise in me
To survive, I lock down

Say the words
I can't face the world
If I could say the words
Everything would be broken still
And I know why

Lockdown, lockdown, lockdown
Lockdown

Lockdown, lockdown, lockdown
Lockdown, lockdown, lockdown

Overall Meaning

Amy Lee's song Lockdown seems to be about a difficult and painful relationship that the singer is struggling to navigate. The first verse refers to the pain that the singer feels as a result of this relationship, using the metaphor of "cracks between the walls" to signify the struggles that are surfacing. The singer is choking on her words as she tries to survive the emotional turmoil that she's experiencing, leading her to "lock down" and shut herself off from the pain.

The second verse continues the theme of pain and struggle, as the singer tastes the poison in her partner's heart and is unable to distinguish between war and peace in her own mind. Again, she resorts to "locking down" in order to cope with the challenges of the relationship.

The chorus reframes the singer's struggles in terms of her inability to communicate with her partner. She longs to say the words that will fix everything, but is held back by fear and a feeling of being broken. The repeated refrain of "lockdown" highlights the singer's sense of being trapped and overwhelmed by her emotions.

Overall, Lockdown is a powerful and emotional song that explores the difficulties of navigating a troubled relationship. The use of strong metaphors and vivid imagery help to bring the singer's pain to life, while the refrain of "lockdown" emphasizes the singer's sense of being trapped and unable to escape her troubles.

Amy lee is just the queen of Darkness and the gothic, dark and alternative metal/rock. There is no one like her. Even when she makes a soundtrack for a movie, it is awesome. Even we have to wait a long time for her new albums, the wait is worth

@eliorahg

In 2020, this sure aged well.

@pollemar

yeah. Why no reply? In Germany is now a new mild lockdown, played this song loud in my car, today. Open windows, 20 degrees, climate change. Sick.
"End of the dream" (synthesis) and "new way to bleed" are maybe even better than this song.

@eliorahg

@pollemar I don't get these new "mild" lockdowns personally because they are not doing what they have to. I honestly would rather have a few weeks longer spring lockdown and clean openings later than whatever mess we have today.

@pollemar

@Eliora Ben-Gurion It's a big mess now! Even in GER! Longer spring lockdown and closing all borders 3 weeks ago and more holiday quarantine were the correct behaviour. But our politicians are very stupid too, like in other countries. I got a lung disease, make my personal lockdown as good as possible. Stay healthy!

@pollemar

@Eliora Ben-Gurion and some ev-songs suitable, too :)
