In the first stanza, the singer doesn't want to see anything that reminds her of time passing. The stars, moon, and sun all symbolize time and the day and night mark the progression of that time. The afternoon, however, feels like the right time for her because it is a time of stability and stagnation.
The second and third stanzas use the metaphor of a spaceman or astronaut to describe the singer's emotional state. She feels like she is floating in space, above the hurt and pain that follows love, the darkness that followed light, and the rain that follows the sun. She sees herself as the light in the dark, the march towards something better, and the spark that can set a new beginning.
But despite this emotional detachment, the final stanza shows that the singer cares deeply for the person she is singing to. She tells them not to despair and not to leave in anger, because she will always be there for them. This can be interpreted as a message of hope and comfort, that even when all seems bleak and helpless, there is always someone who cares.

Thank you from a Scottish girl living in Western Australia who can't get home to visit her family due to covid. Your music keeps my head calm and my heart beating, waiting for the day I can return to my homeland. It's been 9 years since my husband and children have been home together as a family. Unfortunately there's no hope of getting back anytime soon due to the Western Australian government not allowing us to travel overseas 😔 🏴
