An Horse Lyrics

I’m listening carefully
To where exactly you might be,
‘Cause I’ve had enough waiting,
I’ve had enough waiting
For you.
I’m thinking, I’m thinking
As beautiful as you.
Just ask me to.
Just ask me to.
You.
I’m recalling, recalling
Putting on jackets way too thin
To fight against snow way too thick,
And it coming down sideways,
And you clearing my eyes.
I’ve had a little too much to think.
I’ve had a little too much to think.
And empty rooms tend to make
Me believe in you.
Surrounded by everything, I am
Boxed and labeled, ready to go.
Not before time, not before time.
I’m listening, I’m listening.
In An Horse’s song ‘Listen,’ the singer is expressing their impatience after waiting for someone for too long. The opening line “Listen, listen” shows their intent to pay attention and be fully present in the moment. They are attempting to locate the person they have been waiting for, as they have reached their limit. The repetition of “I’ve had enough waiting” emphasizes their frustration, and they are looking for resolution.
As the song progresses, the singer shifts to thoughts of growing old with the person they have been waiting for. They consider the beauty of this person and openly express their willingness to be with them. This shift from frustration to yearning displays vulnerability and a desire for connection with another person. The following verse touches on a memory of the person clearing their eyes during a snowstorm, reflecting the idea that the person has been there for them in times of need. The last line, “I’m listening, I’m listening” serves as a callback to the opening and reflects the singer’s continued desire to be fully present.
Overall, ‘Listen’ is a song about waiting, frustration, vulnerability, and the desire for connection. The singer is honest with their emotions and actively seeking a resolution to the situation.

this song is so beautiful. the ending of the video reminds me of led zeppelin's Black Country Woman for obvious reasons. anyways, i know i'm beating an dead horse, but they are really talented! got Not Really Scared when they played with Tegan & Sara in Tulsa. looking forward to grabbing their new cd.
