Born Rachael Olson on April 18, 1966, she changed her name to Ana Clara Voog just for the fun of it; that is, it isn't a stage name, nor a persona. Although it was allegedly never legally changed, she prefers to be called by it. Ana dropped out of high school in the year she would have graduated, 1984, got her GED, and embarked on a musical career which spanned two decades. For the first eleven years she was the leader, singer, guitar player, and songwriter in an all-female band called The Blue Up?. She recorded on two major labels, Columbia and MCA, and claims she was dropped for being too eccentric. By the beginning of 2005, Ana had released four albums, an EP, singles, has been featured on various compilations throughout the world and has stated that she is soon to begin recording a new album.
Hollywood
Ana Voog Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
i'm moving
if i could i'd be a star for you
come for me
kissing you like it's real
hollywood
i'm reeling
of i could i'd be a film for you
project on me
i'll be the girl on the other side, honey
reflect on me
i'll be the scene that blows up the sky, honey
burning up like it's real
i'm moving
in hollywood
i'll meet you on the other side
i'm movie-ing
The lyrics to Ana Voog's song Hollywood seem to capture a sense of longing for fame and recognition within the Hollywood industry. The singer expresses a desire to become a star and be projected onto the silver screen. She is willing to be whatever the film or audience wants her to be, as she quips, "if I could I'd be a film for you" and "project on me". This sense of desperation is also reflected in her willingness to kiss and be kissed, to "be the girl on the other side" and to be "the scene that blows up the sky" - all in an effort to get noticed.
Despite this desire for fame, there is a sense of detachment and emptiness in the lyrics. The singer seems to be aware that the idealized version of Hollywood does not necessarily exist and that her efforts may not pay off: "burning up like it's real". This sense of disillusionment is captured in the repetition of "moving" and "movie-ing" throughout the song. The singer is constantly in motion, perhaps trying to escape the reality that is depicted in the lyrics.
Overall, the lyrics to Hollywood convey a sense of longing and desperation for fame and recognition in the Hollywood industry, but also a sense of disillusionment and emptiness that comes with it.
