Why does this feel like a videogame ost? Like, I'd see that in a dark but cute forest platformer with a sense of urgency. It's so playful yet, somehow, urging me to act like there's something bad that already happened but has yet to be noticed. I love it.

Impressionist music sounds a lot like video game music because video game themes are usually representative of the mood in the game which is basically what impressionism tries to do

This is my favorite tune from Debussy and one I've my favorite classical pieces overall. The Punch Brothers version is great, the orchestrated version is great and the original piano version is great.

Thank you for uploading the whole suite. I'm so sick and tired of people who overlook the rest of the suite and just upload clair de lune as if it was a single piece and not a movement in a piece. In my opinion, menuet and prelude are certainly better than it and passepied is just as good as clair de lune. You should look at some of the debussy preludes. They are very overlooked as well.

@mcvanby No... this is not too fast... on the contrary, this version (Walter Gieseking's) is one of the slowest i've ever heard. And I actually like this one because of that. One can appreciatte better all the flavors. The only version slower than this one (the I've heard) is on one of the last recordings of Claudio Arrau. That one is almost impossibly slow, partly because Arrau was very old when they recorded iy, but it is delightful, because he had such an amazing expression.

hadn't heard Gieseking in a long time. I was introduced to his playing in my teens after hearing a recording of Beethoven's 4th Concerto and Mozart's 23rd. Nice recording. His Debussy is superb.

What we see and what we hear don't match at the beginning of measure 13, at about 0:17. The sheet music clearly shows a rest at the beginning of the measure (in the right hand) but the recording plays the c# on the downbeat, just like in measure 5. Can anyone confirm which one is correct?

This version is too slow. I heard this piece first with this version so its speed should appear the most natural to me. However, when I read comments stating that most other versions are faster, I gave one a listen and the notes make a lot more sense when played faster. The slow version sounds too much like Bach, it gets a German touch, which does note suite the overall feel of the piece.

Don’t agree at all, a passepied is a french dance. You Forgot that baroque composers made some « dance suites ». There are not all german. This is on This great tradition debussy wrote This. It does not sound like Bach at all, gieseking is doing so much Breathing that are not in baroque style.
For the tempo, it is not what is written, but why not, i prefer it like this because we can hear everything on the left hand, but This is arguable.
