The Jellicle Ball
Andrew Lloyd Webber Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Jellicle cats come out tonight
Jellicle cats come one come all
The Jellicle Moon is shining bright
Jellicles come to the Jellicle Ball
Jellicle cats are black and white
Jellicle cats are rather small
Jellicle cats are merry and bright
And pleasant to hear when we caterwaul

Jellicle cats have cheerful faces
Jellicle cats have bright black eyes
We like to practice our airs and graces
And wait for the Jellicle Moon to rise

Jellicle cats develop slowly
Jellicle cats are not too big
Jellicle cats are roly poly
We know how to dance a gavotte and a jig
Until the Jellicle Moon appears
We make our toilet and take our repose
Jellicles wash behind their ears
Jellicles dry between their toes

Jellicle cats are black and white
Jellicle cats are of moderate size
Jellicles jump like a jumping jack
Jellicle cats have moonlit eyes

We're quiet enough in the morning hours
We're quiet enough in the afternoon
Reserving our Terpsichorean powers
To dance by the light of the Jellicle Moon

Jellicle cats are black and white
Jellicle cats (as we said) are small
If it happens to be a stormy night
We will practice a caper or two in the hall

If it happens the sun is shining bright
You would say we have nothing to do at all
We are resting and saving ourselves to be bright
For the Jellicle Moon and Jellicle Ball

Jellicle cats come out tonight
Jellicle cats come one come all

The Jellicle Moon is shining bright
Jellicles come to the Jellicle Ball

¿Am I the only one who note this? (Look carefully the background):

1:57 -Tugger leaves the stage
2:03 -Returns the stage
2:05 -Dissapears
2:10 -If you're observant, you can see Tugger's hand in the background
2:12 -But then, ¡He is gone! But you'll find him in
2:21 -Laying out on whatever it is
2:24 -Not for so long...
2:26 -¿Who's this tom?
2:42 -¡Tugger is back again! ¿With more cats out of nowhere?
2:45 -Quick change of position
2:47 -He's always on the wrong side of every place
And then, Tugger doesn't disappear and appear on stage again
¿Is it weird to look that much to the background? And excuse my terrible english

There arenot many musicals that can put 10 mins of dancing without any singing and still keep people watching. I love this.

@madeleinedarnoco5190

And have so much of a storyline just through dancing and movement

@crashvds777

True. Although I’d watch the boys from Newsies dance for 10 minutes straight. Doesn’t even have to be choreographed I’d be there so fast.

@glittery_cucumber

The music and choreography work sooo well together
