A French Love
Anna Ternheim Lyrics

See'est la folie d'amour
By now my mind is clear
You planted all the fear
Doubts and despair and
You keep my heart on the run
I'm bound to fall in love with the one
Qui n'a pas besoin de moi
So we planed a secret rendez-vous
Toute la nuit chez moi
Soon confusion grew
I sadly smiled for two
His head went down
He wore my heart like a crown
Ever since I fall for the one
Qui ne m'aime pas
Qui n'a pas besoin de moi
Qui ne m'aime pas
Qui n'a pas besoin de moi
Wall burnt down
You never burned down yours
In Anna Ternheim’s song “French Love,” the lyrics portray a woman who has given everything for a man she loves. The first line “Mind made up, I'd given all for you,” suggests that she has already made a decision to prioritise that one person over everything else. The lines “See’est la folie d’amour” which translates to “this is the madness of love,” suggests that her intense feelings of love have driven her to make such radical decisions for that person. Despite her love for him, she is constantly plagued with doubts and fear, and he keeps her heart on the run. “Doubts and despair and, you keep my heart on the run, I'm bound to fall in love with the one” reveals her inner turmoil and her fear of being hurt.
The chorus, “Qui ne m'aime pas, Qui n'a pas besoin de moi” which means “Who doesn’t love me, who doesn’t need me” is repeated several times throughout the song. The repetition of this phrase creates a sense of desperation and longing for love that is not returned. The following verse describes a secret rendezvous that ends in confusion and the woman’s heart being hurt. “Soon confusion grew. I sadly smiled for two, his head went down, he wore my heart like a crown, ever since I fall for the one.” It appears that her love for him is one-sided, and he doesn't reciprocate her feelings. The theme of unrequited love is evident throughout the song, and the lyrics convey the complexity of love and the various emotions that come with it.
