I Remember You

When you are far away from me
Just a little something, meaning love cannot die
No matter where you chance to be
So I'll pray for you, night and day for you
It will see me through like a charm 'til you return
So give me something I can remember you by
So I'll pray for you, every single day for you
It will see me through like a charm until you return
Give me something, something to remember you by
When you are far away from me
In the song "Something to Remember You By" by Anne Shelton, the lyrics express a desire to hold onto a lasting memory of a loved one who is leaving. The plea in the opening line "give me something to remember you by" shows how much the singer wants to keep the connection with the person who will be far away. The next line speaks of a "little something" that will signify that love cannot die, no matter the distance. This love is so strong that even when apart, the sweet memory will sustain and hold onto the love.
The chorus continues to describe the intensity of the love, "So I'll pray for you, night and day for you, it will see me through like a charm 'til you return, so give me something I can remember you by when you are far away from me." The repetition of the words "night and day" emphasizes how the singer will constantly be thinking of the loved one, and the use of the phrase “see me through like a charm” implies that the memory will provide peace until they are reunited once again. The theme of longing for the return of the loved one is also evident in the lyrics, as the singer is asking for a little something to hold onto until they are reunited.
