Regarding first experience on stage, she started performing during her time at university, taking the chance to play at Open Mic Nights and festivals. From 2002 to 2006 she played in the Folk-Duo Orange Sound Tree together with cellist Ela Günther. Annika has been active as a solo artist ever since, performing by herself as well as with other musicians. For instance, in 2007, she performed during the festival Heidelberger Herbst. In 2006 and 2007 she also played concerts together with French musician Elsa Siugo both in Paris and in the Mannheim-Heidelberg region. During the same years, 2006 together with Orange Sound Tree, 2007 as a solo artist, she performed during the French Week at Heidelberg.
In 2009 Annika recorded her first album Fabulous Sceneries on which she introduces 12 songs in English and French which she wrote over the years. The album was recorded and produced by Amin Jan Sayed at syemusic studio in Viernheim. A special focus lies on the simple arrangements of the songs, concentrating on Annika's fine voice accompanied by acoustic guitar, e-bass, slide-guitar, cello, glockenspiel and accordion. In her songs she creates a warm sound, that with its mix of folk, chanson and chamber folk could be described as orange. Fabulous Sceneries is Annika's treasure-box as well as her journey through time and different places. The lyrics are poetic and natural, partly colourful, partly observing, partly melancholic, telling strories inspired by Annika's personal experiences as well as movies, books and other musicians. The listeners are taken on a journey through fabulous sceneries. During their journey they will find sunflower fields, stardust, dreams, love waltzes, rain words, deserted beaches in autumn as well as gentle moments of love.

Annika Jayne Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Is lightening up the room
There's a storm outside
Clouds are covering the moon
It's also raining in my mind
The wind is howling, leaves me blind
How can life be so unkind?
The flowers were in bloom
We really could have hit it off
But I had to leave in June
Time wasn't on our side
It wasn't for us to decide
Even if we had tried
It's just another sad love story
When everything goes wrong
When two people are left so lonely
And all we have is just this song
Memories will be fading
But this melody is ours
In our hearts, it will keep playing
No matter where the wind blows
As the morning breaks
Light is flooding the room
In the sun I see your face
Birds are singing a gentle tune
Send you a kiss, whisper goodbye
Blow it away, let it fly
And watch it reach the sky
It's just another sad love story
When everything goes wrong
When two people are left so lonely
And all we have is just this song
Memories will be fading
But this melody is ours
In our hearts, it will keep playing
No matter where the wind blows
Even though we can't turn the tide
Hope my kiss finds you alright
Wish I could be there by your side
Hold me tight
Hold me tight
By your side
The lyrics of Annika Jayne's "By Your Side" paint a vivid picture of a poignant and bittersweet love story that unfolds amidst a stormy night. The imagery of a candle casting light in the darkness symbolizes hope and warmth in the midst of external turmoil. The storm outside parallels the emotional turmoil within the singer's mind, with the tumultuous weather serving as a metaphor for the challenges faced in love and life. The howling wind and blinding rain reflect the chaos and confusion that can accompany heartbreak and the harsh realities of life's unpredictability.
The song delves into the missed connection and potential for love that could have blossomed between two individuals. The mention of flowers in bloom and the idea of hitting it off emphasize the spark and potential for something beautiful. However, the timing wasn't right, as indicated by the mention of leaving in June and the acknowledgment that time was not on their side. Despite any efforts made, circumstances beyond their control prevented the relationship from flourishing, highlighting the theme of missed opportunities and the harshness of fate.
The chorus of the song mournfully captures the essence of a love story gone awry, where two individuals are left feeling lonely and adrift. The imagery of memories fading and a fading melody being the only remnants of their time together underscores the transient and fragile nature of love and relationships. The idea that the melody will continue playing in their hearts regardless of where life takes them speaks to the enduring impact of past loves and the emotional resonance of shared experiences.
As the song transitions into a new day dawning, the mood shifts to one of acceptance and resignation. The visual of light flooding the room and the sight of a loved one's face in the morning sun evoke a sense of closure and a peaceful farewell. The act of sending a kiss into the wind, symbolizing a final goodbye and a wish for peace and solace, conveys a sense of longing and acceptance of the inevitable distance between two hearts. The repeated plea to be held tight and the desire to be by their side echo the universal longing for closeness and connection, even in the face of irreparable separation.
