1) Gospel music legends and fans alike are abuzz about Anthony Brown, a 20-something, urban, musically-endowed and gifted songwriter and vocalist. With an artistic pedigree that is steadily refining his stature and distinction, Brown is quickly becoming recognized as an up-and-coming force in the gospel music industry and church music ministry.
Four years since Maurette Brown-Clark recorded the Billboard #1 hit he penned, “It Ain’t Over,” the man behind this dynamic offering is rising to the surface and singing of expectation and harvest. On Brown-Clark’s Stellar Award winning album “The Dream,” Brown also penned the project’s anthem of power, “Sovereign God.” His prowess as a vocal leader is rare given his age. A music prodigy who began playing the piano at 3, he served as the vocal director and vocal producer for the live recording of “The Dream” as well as on “Times of Refreshing,” the 2009 release of GRAMMY-™ and Stellar-nominated praise and worship leader Stephen Hurd.
The Baltimore, MD-native also co-wrote “Water” and “Great Name” on Hurd’s latest project; produced and co-wrote “Joy”, “Bring It”, and “Face Down” for Tonex’s March 2
009 album “Unspoken” and served as music director for Tonex’s “Out the Box” Tour. Brown (and his background singers, group therAPy, were also featured for B.E.T.’s 2006 and 2007 Celebration of Gospel. He has worked with such artists as Stevie Wonder, Anthony Hamilton, Juanita Bynum, Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin and even, the legendary Caravans. In the Spring of 2008, Anthony Brown has become a part of the Music and Arts Department of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden (FBCG) where John K. Jenkins, Sr. is the senior pastor. Within months of his incomparable work at the 10,000-member ministry, Brown was brought on full time as the Creative Director of Vocal Development. Now a member of FBCG, he also has the distinction of writing, producing and performing lead vocals on the title track of the church’s first live recording “That Was Then, This Is Now.”
“The Harvest Song,” the first single from his planned 2010 Summer release, will be released on Tuesday, December 22, 2009. The song has galvanized the hopes of the 10,000 member congregation and is ready for release. Moreover, immediately after hearing the single, GRAMMY, Stellar and Dove-Award winning composer, artist and gospel music icon Richard Smallwood (and Brown’s mentor) called him and said, “This is your moment.” Anthony Brown believes that this is not just “his” moment, but a moment for all who will receive the ministry of “The Harvest Song.” We invite you to experience the song that will take your faith and expectations by the hand and walk with them until you walk into that for which you are believing God.

"Anthony Brown sings Spirituals"......" Sung by a warm and noble baritone with the same care a singer lavishes on German Lieder"
The Seattle Times
"A singer of real accomplishment"
The New York Concert Review
Nationally acclaimed baritone Anthony Brown has made a specialty of singing music of the American experience. Referred to by some music critics as a "warm and noble baritone", he has brought this music to audiences in places like the Rainbow Room in New York City and the Crystal Cathedral in Orange County California. Whatever the setting, Anthony Brown sings with passion and commitment. His American music repertoire includes Broadway show tunes opera arias, art song, folk ballads and Spirituals. Born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, he now makes his home in Kansas where he is Artist in Residence at Hesston College.
In 1995 he recorded his first compact disc of African American Spirituals. He was astonished by the immediate enthusiastic response to this music. He states " it seemed that this music was awakening our primordial need for the Transcendent. The machine- like fast paced fashion in which we live has left us numb and out of touch with the essential and basic things of life." He sings this music to all ages, races and religions and reports a strong sense of commonality with the listeners. He stresses the fact that all of us know about the difficulty of everyday living and no one lives without pain. He believes it is this reality that binds us to each other in our common humanity. .
He discovered this universal connection in the multi ethnic country of Bosnia when he toured there under the sponsorship of the U.S. State Department in March of 2002. "I was amazed
with the overwhelming outpouring of love and acceptance when the people heard the spirituals. This music tapped into their pain and brought us together.
He toured Northern Ireland as a promoter of peace and good will in 2003 and 2005. He also was on a month long tour to the Peoples Republic of China in May of 2005. Whils there he made his concer debut in Soporro Japan.
He released his second spirituals recording in October 2002. It's title is Toil and Triumph and the Spirituals Project Choir of Denver joins him on several selections.
His love of American music has to do with the many cultural influences that inspired it. These cultural influences come form the "old country" but also have unique American characteristics. He believes " the genius of American music is in the wonderful interplay of the musical styles and cultural influences." It is music that is "easy on the ears." It conjures up memories from another era and is emotionally moving to the listener.
His compact disc Embracing American Song, recorded in 1999, offers a wide array of American songs from the romantic ballad, Red River Valley or In the Gloaming, to classic American folk songs like Shenandoah and Jeanie with the Light Brown hair.
He also collaborates with the distinguished baritone, Julian Patrick and the fabulous young baritone, Keith Harris. They call themselves the Three Baritones and a Lady. The lady is Juilliard graduate Lisa Bergman, pianist. They perfom across the country singing a very diverse repertoire.
No matter where Anthony Brown sings, his musical offerings inspire audiences and make them proud of our rich and varied musical heritage.
In total he has released three compact discs; Embracing American Song (1999), Toil And Triumph (African American Spirituals) (2002) and Each Other's Light, Songs Of Peace, Hope And Justice (2006)
