As of 2009, the band consists of Kristen Henderson on bass guitar/bg vocals, Cathy Henderson on lead guitar/bg vocals, Dena Tauriello on drums and Nini Camps on rhythm guitar and lead vocals.
The band is primarily known as a touring band, at one time performing 260 shows a year. They earned a dedicated fanbase early on that follows them from concert to concert along the East Coast and increasingly across the country. Fans refer to the band simply as "AR" or "Antigone".
Their first four albums were recorded mostly with independent labels and financed through fan donations. In 2003 they signed up with Lava Records after label president Jason Flom spotted them playing at one of their gigs. In 2005, they became the first artists to be promoted in Starbucks' Hear Music Series, created to discover and spotlight new music. The high visibility, exclusive sale, in-store promotion and airplay at Starbucks across the country helped the band's acoustic EP From the Ground Up sell over 450,000 copies by the end of 2005. The album's single, "Don't Look Back," was very popular among country audiences, and its video received heavy airplay on CMT.
Antigone Rising have shared the stage with Joan Jett, The Rolling Stones, moe., Rob Thomas, Aerosmith, The Allman Brothers and The Bangles[1]. They performed at Lilith Fair 1998 and SXSW 2005 and have co-written with Chris Trapper of The Push Stars and Rob Thomas.

Oh love, please let me count the ways
It gets inside my head
I've been counting all my life
Moments as they pass
When left alone with them too long
It gets inside my head, and breaks my heart
In line of fire today
Run for your life
Pain's water, wash it away
Run for your, run for your life
Addicted to my T.V.
That's "Mister" to me
Paper souls and painted smiles
It gets under my skin how "Mister"
Tells me who I am
You're gun for hire today
Run for your life
Pain's mother take it away
Run for you, run for your life
You're gun for hire today
Run for your life
Pain's mother, kiss it away
Run for your, run for your, run for your,
Run for your life
The lyrics of "Run For Your Life" by Antigone Rising speaks of the fear of being overwhelmed by the memories that haunt and weigh one down. The opening line suggests that the singer is going through her personal archive of memories, analogizing it to that of a movie composed of frames. The chorus repeats the phrase, "run for your life," which could indicate the urgency to escape and leave behind the past and anything that reminds them of it.
The second verse shifts towards the external landscape of news and media. It speaks of the singer's addiction to television that portrays a world of paper-thin souls and people with painted-on smiles. The term "Mister" could indicate the patriarchal force in society that perpetuates these norms that "get under one's skin" and dictate what someone should be. The call to "Run for your life" in the chorus is then reinforced with the line, "you're gun for hire today," which could mean that one is forced to play by society's rules and do what is necessary to survive.
Overall, the song speaks of the need to escape from one's past and also society's expectations while feeling overwhelmed by it. It's an anthem for anyone who wishes to break free from the things that weigh them down, and running for their lives becomes crucial.
