Forqueray, born in Paris, was the first in a line of composers who included his brother Michel Forqueray (1681-1757) and his sons Jean-Baptiste Forqueray (1699-1782) and Nicolas Gilles Forqueray (1703-1761). Forqueray was named musicien ordinaire of La Chambre du Roy of Louis XIV in 1689 and played at court. Until 1710, he was accompanied by his wife on the harpsichord in his recitals. In 1730, he retired to Mantes-la-Jolie, where he died in 1745.
His son published his works for the viola de gamba in 1747 (two years after his death) together with a version for harpsichord.

I love all your work! I've always loved the instrument and 17th, 18th century music since I was a child when I heard it for the first time; the harpsichord being played on the radio. I want to learn harpsichord, but I don't know how to start or have the finances to get to where you are now. What stepping Stones do I need to go about this path? Please I need guidance!

the more i hear this rondeau the more i am taken by him. this is such a great piece. i never knew about forqueray and i thought the couperin family was where it ended with the best solo harpsichord composers

Many people play the harpsichord nowadays, which is great, but few of them are real harpsichordists - and this guy is one of them! Great playing!

I mean sure it's ambiguous, but it's not hard to discern what they meant by it given the context clues.

Many modes of touching and expressing his own interpretation - Bravissimo!

Jean Rondeau's musical interpretation and his choice of rhythm are immanent and with an irradiate quality of transcendence ! Thank you for posting this video.

Monsiuer Rondeau's interpretation sounds pretty much like most others, so, while it certainly is not bad, Sir, I fail to see what it 'transcends'...
