The band members include lead singer and lyricist J. Jackson, guitarist/keyboardist Bill Hubauer, bassist Keith Haynie, and drummer Jimmy "Vegas" Tanner. The band played its first concert as ApologetiX in 1992, and its 1000th in 2007. All of the band members grew up in and around Pittsburgh PA, and that is where they make their homes and attend church.
ApologetiX rewrites secular songs with (often comical) Christian lyrics. Some of their parodies include "Corinthians" (parody of "In the End" by Linkin Park), "Look Yourself" ("Lose Yourself" by Eminem), "Smooth Grandmama" ("Smooth Criminal" by Alien Ant Farm), "Smells Like Thirtysomething Spirit" ("Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana), and "Bethlehemian Rhapsody" ("Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen). Smooth Grandmama is considered to be their most well-known parody. While maintaining the integrity of fundamentalist "grannies," the song pokes fun at certain aspects.
ApologetiX gets their unusual name from the word apologetics, which means "the defense of the Christian faith." It is based on the Greek word for defense, apologia. The word is used in 1 Peter 3:15, "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer (defense or "apologia") to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect..." (NIV). Their logo, a triquetra, is an ancient symbol of the Holy Trinity.

Messiah
ApologetiX Lyrics

(Daniel 9:24-27, Isaiah 53:1-12)
Brothers, quite honestly
Is the Bible a white lie? It predicts history
Have you read the parts prophesyin' Messiah?
See, from Daniel – the Israelites knew
And so they counted till they got one
And eschewed everyone who's not one
It's in Daniel, chapter 9 -- the
Messiah! Messiah!
You ready?
Under Caesar's when they'd find the
Messiah! Messiah!
Yearning -- yearning
He gave all us the time projections
Seek the prophets for your directions
The Scriptures that came long ago
I can preach it -- still your heart has to let Him in, though
So let Him, honey, honey, honey
Honey, honey, honey, honey, honey
And when Jesus gets inside ya
Messiah! Messiah!
Messiah! Messiah!
Messiah! Messiah!
The lyrics to ApologetiX's song "Messiah" are a parody of U2's "Desire" and are deeply rooted in Biblical prophecy. The song encourages listeners to read the prophetic parts of the Bible about the coming Messiah, as they predict the arrival of Jesus Christ. The lyrics specifically reference Daniel 9:24-27, which foretells the exact number of years until the arrival of the Messiah, and Isaiah 53:1-12, which describes the Messiah's suffering.
The song also calls attention to the fact that the Israelites knew that the Messiah was coming soon and counted down until his arrival. The word "Messiah" is repeated throughout the song as a reminder of the central figure of the Bible's prophecies. The lyrics urge listeners to seek guidance from the prophets and take inspiration from the Scriptures that were written long ago. Ultimately, the song suggests that once Jesus gets inside us, he is the true Messiah.
Overall, "Messiah" is a powerful and insightful song that encourages listeners to explore the prophetic texts of the Bible to better understand the coming of Jesus Christ. The lyrics are a creative and memorable way to share this important message with others.
