The Warning
Arachne Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I, when I see your empty glances
I feel, all the pain of the war and all the pain of the people.
Normal souls, normal eyes,
In the middle of strange light
Now the bombs are resting,
And the children are sleeping, now.

And we are here, with our shocking pains,
A weak market, a black day,
We are still like silly things,
With a little smile.

When I, when I see that leanness, that hands,
I feel, I feel a warning, a warning for all (the) men.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Arachnes's song "The Warning" are rife with imagery and emotion. The opening lines, "When I see your empty glances, I feel all the pain of the war and all the pain of the people," evoke a sense of profound empathy for a person who is clearly struggling. The singer is able to see beyond the superficial and empathize with the pain of those around them.

The reference to "normal souls, normal eyes, in the middle of strange light" is a powerful juxtaposition that speaks to the confusion and absurdity of life during wartime. It is a clear statement of how innocence is caught in the crossfire of the world's conflicts. However, the line "now the bombs are resting, and the children are sleeping" offers a glimmer of hope that eventually, even in the midst of chaos, there will be peace.

The last verse is a warning that men can't ignore the struggles of their fellow humans. The imagery of "leanness, hands" is likely meant to signify the specter of poverty and lack of resources faced by so many in the world. The warning is not to ignore the struggles of others, to recognize their suffering and work to alleviate it.

This is Ovid's version, which predictably defames Minerva. It's a perfect display of why Augustus was right to kick the misogynistic lecher out of Italy. The original Greek story of Arachne actually shows Athena turn Arachne into a spider after Arachne hangs herself in despair over humiliating her favourite goddess. It's an act of love to a young craftswoman who Athena respects and feels sorry for, more like Apollo turning two dead boyfriends into a tree (a cypress tree) and a flower (the hyacinth) respectively.

As said in another most excellent video, if you see a story where Athena acts out of spite, jealousy, or just being a dick to people, you're likely to be looking at Ovid.

So she accepted the challenge then got pissed off, ripped her work, beat her, and turned her into a spider...yup...that's classic Greece for you.

it's happening today as well. myths aren't literal stories, they portray human traits. look at the leftists, swj's & cancel culture. they debate, get owned & then try to cancrl that person. same mindset as athena. gods aren't beings, they are faces of ourselves.

Clown

@IAm Nameless Athena did nothing wrong. Ovid was very biased. In actuality, Medusa was a normal Gorgon and the only mortal Gorgon from the sisters

Gods and goddess are douches
