Canto I
Arcane Sun Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Many seasons have passed since first my search began,
with each night came a quest...
to escape from a world where I could find no peace, only despair.
Each night brought a sense of hope and each day, despair.
Some nights I would catch a glimpse that would soon disappear
among a myriad of thoughts and images,
but still I would wade through
and seek what I knew was waiting to welcome me...
Elysium to Greece,
Byzantium to Yates.
Few brief glimpses had strenghtened

my desire and the lust for my own paradise,
gave strenght to my withering soul.

Overall Meaning

The opening lines in Arcane Sun's song Canto I describe the feelings of the singer as they embark on their personal quest for a place of solace, a utopia where they can find peace. The journey of the search had begun many seasons ago and every night had become a new opportunity for them to move closer to their destination. Each new day brought renewed despair, but the sense of hope that emerged from the nightly quests kept them going. Despite the battles within their soul, the singer's determination to find refuge in a world that constantly brings pain furthers their search.

The lyrics then shift to describe how the singer would sometimes catch glimpses of their destination, but they were fleeting and disappeared within a myriad of thoughts and mental images. The desires for their utopia waxed and waned, but the glimpses of what lay ahead had strengthened their desire to continue on their journey. They reference Elysium, the Hellenic concept of the afterlife, and Byzantium, where the eastern Roman Empire was located, to demonstrate how their desire to reach their paradise was universal and timeless, even as they strived for personal solace. The singer's journey warrants the unraveling of layers of philosophical and psychological underpinnings to understand the deeper essence of their exploration.

@WolvesInferno they split up twenty years ago but the album is finally getting a vinyl release along with a CD reissue all with new artwork from Rob Vomitor.

WolvesInferno

It's an awesome album. I honestly had thought they called it quits. If they are releasing something new, I'll be looking forward to it.

unbeatable atmosphere....damn old school yet melodic doom/death

WolvesInferno

I honestly don't know but they were a brilliant band with a class debut album, and it's a real pity that they didn't get more recognition when this album came out.

Enigmatic Spirit

I still got the CD in pristine condition :)
