doomscrolling
Architects Lyrics

No betting on tomorrow
But we all love a tragedy
Come drown in our sorrow
And see the world as it oughta be
Delete another day

Doomscrolling, sat beneath my shadow
Keep loading, nothing here is hallowed, oh
Come see the world as it oughta be (come see the world as it oughta be)
Delete another day

This path is growing kinda narrow
With rotten roses all the way
No guarantees it'll carry me
Nobody ordered me to swallow

I wanna know are we the bow or the arrow?
Go take a dive where the waters are shallow
We can swim the undertow
Swim the undertow
Swim the undertow

No betting on tomorrow
But we all love a tragedy (but we all love a tragedy)
Come drown in our sorrow
And see the world as it oughta be (and see the world as it oughta be)
Delete another day

Doomscrolling, sat beneath my shadow
Keep loading, nothing here is hallowed, oh
Come see the world as it oughta be (come see the world as it oughta be)
Delete another day

We saw the flaw right from the get-go (get-go)
Who knew the hell we had to pay? (Pay)
We like to please 'cause we're devotees
Hopefully God is at the gallows

I wanna know are we the bow or the arrow?
Go take a dive where the waters are shallow
We can swim the undertow
Swim the undertow
Swim the undertow

No betting on tomorrow
But we all love a tragedy (but we all love a tragedy)
Come drown in our sorrow
And see the world as it oughta be (and see the world as it oughta be)
Delete another day

Doomscrolling, sat beneath my shadow
Keep loading, nothing here is hallowed, oh
Come see the world as it oughta be (come see the world as it oughta be)
Delete another day
God save our souls

Let's take the flame and hold it closer to the fuse
We're well aware that we've got everything to lose
We're singing, "We don't wanna know"
"We don't wanna know, we don't wanna know"
We kick the habit then we let the fire loose
It doesn't matter when there's water at the roots
We're singing, "We don't wanna know"
"We don't wanna know, we don't wanna know"

Let's take the flame and hold it closer to the fuse
We're well aware that we've got everything to lose
We're singing, "We don't wanna know"
"We don't wanna know, we don't wanna know" (God save us all)
We kick the habit then we let the fire loose
It doesn't matter when there's water at the roots
We're singing, "We don't wanna know"
"We don't wanna know, we don't wanna know"

No betting on tomorrow
But we all love a tragedy

Come drown in our sorrow
And see the world as it oughta be

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Architects's song "Doomscrolling" delve into themes of existential dread, societal disillusionment, and the human tendency to be drawn towards tragedy and negativity. The opening lines "No betting on tomorrow, but we all love a tragedy" suggest a fatalistic outlook on life, where there is a lack of faith in the future but an almost morbid fascination with tragic events. This sets the tone for the rest of the song, emphasizing a sense of hopelessness and inevitability.

The chorus "Doomscrolling, sat beneath my shadow, keep loading, nothing here is hallowed" makes a direct reference to the modern phenomenon of "doomscrolling," the act of endlessly scrolling through negative news and content online. The lyrics reflect a sense of being consumed by the darkness and weight of the world, unable to escape from the constant influx of negativity. The mention of deleting another day could symbolize a desire to escape from this cycle of despair, even momentarily.

As the song progresses, the lyrics question the nature of humanity and our place in the grand scheme of things. The line "I wanna know are we the bow or the arrow?" suggests a contemplation on whether we are in control of our own destinies or merely pawns in a larger game. The reference to swimming the undertow can be interpreted as navigating through difficult and turbulent times, struggling to stay afloat amidst the chaos and uncertainty.

The repeated refrain of "No betting on tomorrow, but we all love a tragedy" underscores a sense of resignation and acceptance of the darker aspects of life. The plea for God to save our souls at the end of the song reflects a sense of desperation and a yearning for some form of redemption or salvation. Overall, "Doomscrolling" paints a bleak yet thought-provoking picture of the human condition, urging listeners to confront the harsh realities of the world while also questioning their own agency and purpose.

Really wish people would start giving Dan his credit for his songwriting. It's obviously not like Tom's more allegorical, point the finger to the big guy approach however it still has a place.
Dan has more of a down to earth, self reflective tone that emphasizes looking at yourself before judging the world. It's reminiscent to songs like 'Castle In the Air' and 'Follow The Water'. We really get best of both worlds with the Searle brothers

@homerdj0nt974

well, i guess before daybreaker it was sam who wrote lyrics, so i guess follow the water was him who wrote it. Yea, I love dan's lyrics just as much as I loved Tom's

@xMarik96

This song and Burn Down My House have been on repeat for me every day since the album dropped. I just love hearing the line "Come see the world as it oughta be".

@hrynechko
