Singh is a trained classical singer who has performed in many stage shows. His career as a playback singer started when he participated in a singing reality show called Fame Gurukul (2005), while still in college. Although he did not win the competition, his participation garnered respect and love from fans. He went on to win a subsequent reality show called 10 ke 10 le gaye dil with the help of audience votes. Shankar Ehsaan Loy gave Arijit the first break on one of their songs called "All For One" from High School Musical 2 (Vol 1) album.

The lyrics of Muskurane song by Arijit Singh depict the feeling of being deeply in love with someone. He can't imagine living without that person and desperately wants to stop the moment to spend a lifetime with his love. The wordings "Jiya jaaye na" highlights the fear of losing the love of his life and "O re piya re" depicts the deep attachment and love for the person.
The singer also requests the person not to leave anytime, and if possible, ask the moment to pause so that they can live together forever.
