Youngblood
Arkham Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They'd put a price a dignity if they could fathom it
Sold myself short but I made a profit/prophet
God knows how black my sins are
Never saw the devil with anyone but myself

I wanna leave a good looking corpse
And I don't wanna be here anymore
They got me bleeding out and I'm loving every minute of it
Know my name and I'll take it to the grave
Cause we're all terminal whether we realize it or not
It's just the matter of the time on your clock

They got you selling your reasons to live
Just to pretend that you're not gonna die
This is the great american, the great american goodbye
So make sure you wave when you give
your great american goodbye

We're all just UPDOGSSSSS
Waiting for that money shot

UP DOGS
Waiting for that hammer to drop

Overall Meaning

The opening of these lyrics conveys a sense of discouragement and defeat. The first line in particular, "They'd put a price a dignity if they could fathom it," suggests that there are those out there who would only value someone if they could attach a price tag to their worth. This leads the singer to acknowledge their own faults and shortcomings, admitting that they have not always done what's best for themselves. They acknowledge their own sin, but also the fact that they've only gotten themselves into trouble, that they are responsible for their own downfall rather than an outside force influencing them.

The next lines, "I wanna leave a good looking corpse / And I don't wanna be here anymore" contributes to the themes of death and destruction already present in the passage. The image of a 'good looking corpse' conveys a sense of the singer's disillusionment with the world around them. They want to leave something flawless behind because they mourn what has been lost. The phrase "I don't wanna be here anymore" similarly reflects this sadness, the sense of wanting to give up and move on.

The last segment of lyrics sees the singer repeat the idea that everyone is just waiting for their time to run out. They say "we're all terminal whether we realize it or not," before encouraging others not to give up, even when their reasons for living seem few and far-between. The idea of the "great american goodbye" is used to describe this inevitable end, and the tone remains somber. The final stanza suggests a sense of longing or resignation - the "UP DOGS" will eventually get what's coming to them, whether that be a "money shot" or the "hammer to drop."

@voidsavitar. Ah, thank you! No harm done lol. It is technically a song about a romantic relationship, and leaving the bit about calling someone baby gave me pause, but in the end I just slapped the audio of "Robin" on top of it. The chorus with the words "dead man walking" was just too Jason for me to resist!
