Bruce didn't kill himself cause if that were the case, the explosion would've killed Alfred as well and he isn't the type of person to put others in danger. He faked his death and reassumed his position as Batman seeing as to how no one would know who he is once again. The final scene probably meant that he is using a sort of modified fear toxin that could affect the criminals, or that the criminals, after absorbing the cranes toxin, now fear batman. so whenever they saw batman, the toxin took over and made them see this scary image of him. It will only affect the criminals since only they were exposed.
Still, Bruce didn't die.

Do people even doubt this? When they talked about activating the Batfall protocol to protect everyone he knew, it was pretty obvious that he'd feign his death. There's no other way around it, and Bruce wouldn't commit suicide (and he MOST DEFINITELY wouldn't do it if he had to take Alfred with him).

Or maybe it's Azrael who became Batman's successor, in-game you can make Azrael refuse to try to kill Batman, and become his friend. Also, if i recall correctly in the knightfall comicbook arc it was Azrael who replaced Bruce as Batman after Bane broke his back. While in the meantime Bruce is finally enjoyng his billion on some tropical island, kinda like we saw in "The dark Knight rises" movie.

I don't think he's using fear toxin. I think they were already exposed to it. Remember, all of the normal citizens were evacuated at the beginning of the game, so only the criminals stayed behind. So when the cloudburst scenario happened, literally every single criminal in Gotham got exposed to the fear toxin. And it was mentioned that the fear toxin can have long-lasting psychological effects (especially this new version of it), which means that all of the criminals of Gotham will likely be haunted by vivid, nightmarish hallucinations of Batman for the rest of their lives, every time they try to commit a crime.

Yeah the racetracks were awful. But I hated these riddles where you have to make a picture of something the most! For example the Solomon Grundy Easter Egg or the Calendar Man room.

A brilliant game, very atmospheric, cinematic and some great characterisations. The Joker was hilarious, as was the Riddler. As for Pyg...geez that's some f#$ked up shit....
I loved gliding around and smashing everything up with the batmobile :)
I played the PC version too with the horrible FPS and the environmental takedown that was virtually impossible to do (it took me an hour of button pressing to get one takedown)

+Aaron Barlow I'd have to disagree. I was disappointed by the game. It had some fun moments but overall it felt disappointing. The Joker was great, but SO MUCH more could have been done with BatJoker. The end to that just felt anticlimactic.
Driving the Batmobile was fun but the tank battles were tedious as fuck
And since the tank battles were such a big part of the game, it just detracted from my enjoyment of the game.
I played on PS4, successfully avoiding the PC bullshit.

+CoffeeBurps I agree. I totally enjoyed the other Arkham games a lot more. Rocksteady tried so hard to make the Arkham knight unique or whatever and I always knew before the game even released that it was going to be Jason. Like wow. Couldn't they just go for something better? I mean don't get me wrong it was good but not as good as the past 3 installments. The Batmobile shot made the game horrible to me. I refused to play it until recently. Oh well

+Chris Figueroa Yeah the whole Arkham Knight thing could have been done much better as well, but with everything else in the game that was the least of my concerns with it. Plus I can overlook it because it seems like it might be an attempt at building up to a Red Hood spinoff game. which I think would be pretty cool. I dont know if thats actually happening, I don't follow the Arkham series that closely, its just a feeling I got from playing this game.

I think my favorite explanation for this ending is that the criminals are experiencing lasting effects of Scarecrow's ultimate fear toxin to the point of continuing resurrecting their greatest fear:

If they do a sequel, which I wouldn't mind, they must have a different main character and a tribute of some kind. Maybe have a side mission or something where you can look into the possible theories, but ultimately the player character finds a vague something-something which leads to the decision of shelving the investigation.
