Arleta was born in Athens in 1945. She studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts.
She published her first album of her own creation (Ένα Καπέλο με Τραγούδια, A hat with songs) in 1960. In the beginning of her career she worked with many well-known Greek composers like Giannis Spanos, Manos Hatzidakis and Mikis Theodorakis. Her first great successes came with songs whose music was written by Lakis Papadopoulos and lyrics by Marianina Kriezi. She performed with great success in the Athens boîte scene. In 1997 her book, Από πού πάνε για την Άνοιξη (Whereto does one go to get to Spring) was released, a book that includes her own illustrations.
On February 11, 2008, just a few minutes before a planned performance at Volos, Arleta suffered a stroke. She underwent surgery, remaining in a critical but stable condition, from which she managed to recover, having remained though in hospital for 6 months and partly paralysed, unable to stand, for one year.
In January 2017, she suffered another stroke and remained in hospital, where she passed away on 8 August 2017, aged 72.

These lyrics are from the song "Salomi" by Arleta. The song speaks about a woman named Salomi who is presented as the daughter of Herodias, a character from biblical references. Herodias was known to be a promiscuous and provocative figure, and Salomi seems to have inherited these traits as well. The lyrics describe her presence in the palace, amidst the rain, with her long hair hiding her dreams. She is portrayed as someone who is unconcerned about social norms and conventions.
It is mentioned that Salomi does not feel intoxicated or affected by the chaos around her, even if she were to be called John. This could be a reference to John the Baptist, who was beheaded by Herod at the request of Herodias and Salomi. The lyrics suggest that Salomi freely discards her seven veils and does not give any importance to money or material possessions.
The lyrics also mention a witch who had foreseen Salomi's destiny and her connection to her grandfather's paintings, indicating that Salomi's provocative nature has been present for centuries. The song implies that Salomi dances in a circus, in an illuminated ring, defying societal norms and enjoying her freedom.
Overall, "Salomi" portrays a rebellious and free-spirited woman who defies social norms and embraces her provocative nature.
