The band was formed in 2006 in Boston, United States and has since released a handful of albums and EPs, most notably the Bliss Was It in That Dawn to Be Alive EP from 2006, the well-received album Black Paris 86 released in 2007, and Matador, which was released in November 2009.
The band gives a cinematic experience when performing live, backing their music up with synchronised visuals created by Dado Ramadani.
Arms and Sleepers released its third album, The Organ Hearts, in May 2011, exclusively on Expect Candy. The album features several collaborations with Ben Shepard of Uzi & Ari.
In April 2012 the group announced that they would be canceling their upcoming tours and be going on an indefinite hiatus. They did play on Dunk Festival in March 2013. In February 2014 the group announced they would have a new album out late spring/early summer.

When I was going through deep depression I had to hide it all the time while I was at work and school. At night time I would drive home and put this song on and it was the only way I could cry and release any emotions. It still makes me sad to this day, it’s amazing what music does to different people.

I understand how this feel so badly it hurts people tell me that you don't know what depression is or any anxiety is like and honestly it hurt a lot and this song helped me out a lot ever since my friend committed suicide back in 2021 of January this song was the only thing keeping me happier cause it felt like this song was a friend that would never let me go and will hug me forever even at my lowest points.
