Bang Bang
Arnold T Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was five and he was six
We rode on horses made of sticks
He wore black and I wore white
He would always win the fight

Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down
My baby shot me down
My baby shot me down
My baby shot me down
My baby shot me down

Seasons came and changed the time
When I grew up, I called him mine
He would always laugh and say
"Remember when we used to play?"

Bang bang, I shot you down
Bang bang, you hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, I used to shoot you down.
My baby shot me down
My baby shot me down
My baby shot me down

Now he's gone, I don't know why
And till this day, sometimes I cry
He didn't even say goodbye
He didn't take the time to lie.

Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down
My baby shot me down
My baby shot me down
My baby shot me down

My baby shot me down

My baby shot me down
My baby shot me down

Overall Meaning

The song "Bang Bang" by Arnold T is a tragic story of two childhood friends who grew apart and went in different directions in life. The song begins with the singer reminiscing about her childhood when she was just five and her friend was six. They used to play together, riding on horses made of sticks. They also used to play a game where they would pretend to shoot each other, and the boy would always win. The singer wore white, and the boy wore black. The game mirrored their friendship as the boy was always in control and always won.

In the chorus, the singer talks about how her friend shot her down with his imaginary gun, causing her to hit the ground. The sound of her falling is represented in the lyrics as the "awful sound" of "bang bang." Despite the game, the two friends remained close, and the singer even grew up to call him hers. They would still play together, but roles would change, and now she would shoot him down. However, the childhood friendship would end as the boy grew up and went his way, and the singer lost touch with him.

The final verse is where the tragedy of the song comes in. The singer doesn't know why her friend left or why he didn't say goodbye. She cries for him sometimes, but it's too late. She acknowledges that he didn't take the time to lie, indicating that he was truthful about his departure. The tables have turned, and now he has shot her down in a different way, leaving her hurt behind.

One of eh best cover versions of any song I have ever heard. Far superior to the original. Incredible modern sound and style while keeping the retro 60's feel. I'm going to use this in my next feature.
