1) Ash are an alternative rock band that formed in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland in 1992. The media originally pegged Ash's music as Britpop when the band first found mainstream success.
The current line-up of the group is as follows: Tim Wheeler (vocals and guitar), Mark Hamilton (bass guitar) and Rick McMurray (drums).
Ash's full-length debut "1977" was released in 1996 and followed 1994's mini album "Trailer". In autumn 1997, guitarist Charlotte Hatherley was added to the existing trio. Hatherley was recruited from the band Nightnurse.
The new quartet's sophomore effort - "Nu-Clear Sounds" was released in 1998 to a mixed critical reaction. "Free All Angels" followed in April 2001, gaining a U.S. release in the following summer.
Meltdown, the band's first Stateside release for Record Collection, arrived in spring 2005. A year later, and after nine years with Ash, Charlotte Hatherley announced her departure from the band to concentrate on a solo career. In awe all day
Your company was so relaxing
Easy going ways
We saw the first signs of summer and springtime change
Walking barefoot along the sand
I hadn't planned to stay
All summer
It'll be sad my friend
To see it come to an end
Why can't we just quit
You are broke all summer
But you still sing
Don't need money when it's sunny
Don't need anything
Just need music and sun and laughter
And no currency
The sun on your bare shoulders
Comes for free
Yeah we've been walking barefoot
All summer
It'll be sad my friend
To see it come to an end
Why can't we just quit
Yeah we've been walking barefoot
All summer
Why can't we just design
To live like this all the time
Why can't we just quit
Sand ran through my fingers
And the land was hot
Anointed by Apollo
And his chariot
Disarmed by your charm
That night I felt it again
Addictive and consuming
Love's sweet pain
Yeah we've been walking barefoot
All summer
It'll be sad my friend
To see it come to an end
Why can't we just quit
Our days are as the wind blows us
We are free
You've a quiet love out of town
Of coastal ease
The wind it has no pattern
We take life slow
And when the night has fallen
Out cups overflows
When the summer's gone
And the room is cold
When you're looking at the rain
And it just won't go
Remember when the sun was high
Up above
Remember when the days were long
And we were in love
Yeah we've been walking barefoot
All summer
It'll be sad my friend
To see it come to an end
Why can't we just quit
Yeah we've been walking barefoot
All summer
Why can't we just design
To live like this all the time
Why can't we just quit
The lyrics of Ash's "Walking Barefoot" are a nostalgic and wistful look back at a carefree summer fling. The song describes the joy of living in the moment, soaking up the sun and enjoying the company of a lover without worrying about the constraints of money or time.
The opening lines "Your beauty took my breath away, in awe all day" set the tone for the song's dreamy, romantic vibe. The singer is smitten with their partner, and the easygoing days they spend together walking barefoot along the beach.
The chorus expresses their reluctance to let the summer end and return to the real world with all its responsibilities. The singer wonders why they can't just quit and live in this idyllic state forever.
The second verse reinforces the idea that money isn't everything, and that the simple pleasures of music, sun, and laughter are what really matter. The line "The sun on your bare shoulders comes for free" is a beautiful image that reinforces the song's theme of enjoying the moment.
The final verse is a poignant reminder to cherish the memories of this special time, even when the summer is over and life returns to its regular routine. The line "Remember when the days were long and we were in love" is a bittersweet reminder that these moments, though fleeting, are what make life truly memorable.
Overall, "Walking Barefoot" is a beautiful ode to the joys of living in the moment, experiencing love and happiness and enjoying life's simple pleasures.
