The song Ek Pardesi is sung by Asha Bhosle and appears in the movie 'Phagun' released in 1958. The song tells the story of a girl who fell in love with a stranger who came from a far-off land. She expressed her love for him, but her family did not approve of their relationship. The family disowned her, and she had to leave with her lover to a foreign land. The promises of love were not fulfilled, leaving the girl with shattered dreams. Now, she lives in a strange land, and her lover is no longer there beside her. Even though she is hurt, she conceals her pain and remains silent, leaving everyone amazed.
The lyrics are an emotional portrayal of the pain of separation and unfulfilled promises. The girl's family was against her love, and they forced her to leave her lover and the country. The girl's emotions are reflected in the lyrics, which show that she was hurt but chose to remain silent rather than express her feelings. The song provides an insight into the hardships faced by the women of that time who had to go through the process of displacement and were left alone in a foreign land after separation from their partners.
