Moral of the Story

God, I really tried to
Blindsided, addicted
Thought we could really do this
But really I was foolish
Hindsight it's obvious
Talking with my lawyer, she said
I say, "Young people fall in love
With the wrong people sometimes"
Some mistakes get made
That's alright, that's okay
You can think that you're in love
When you're really just in pain
Some mistakes get made
That's alright, that's okay
In the end it's better for me
That's the moral of the story, babe
It's funny how a memory
Turns into a bad dream
When running wild turns volatile
Remember how we painted our house?
Just like my grandparents did, so romantic
But we fought the whole time
Should have seen the signs, yeah
Talking with my mother she said
"Where'd you find this guy?"
I said, "Some people fall in love
With the wrong people sometimes"
Some mistakes get made
That's alright, that's okay
You can think that you're in love
When you're really just in pain
Some mistakes get made
That's alright, that's okay
In the end it's better for me
That's the moral of the story babe
They say, it's better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all
That could be a load of shit
But I just need to tell you all
Some mistakes get made
That's alright, that's okay
You can think that you're in love
When you're really just engaged
Some mistakes get made
That's alright, that's okay
In the end it's better for me
That's the moral of the story
Some mistakes get made
That's alright, that's okay
You can think that you're in love
When you're really just in pain
Some mistakes get made
That's alright, that's okay
In the end it's better for me
That's the moral of the story babe
Ashe's song "Moral of the Story" is about a relationship that ultimately ended badly. The song is introspective, reflecting on what went wrong and taking responsibility for mistakes made, but also recognizing that it's sometimes better to walk away from a relationship that isn't working. The lyrics suggest a sense of regret, as the singer looks back on the relationship and realizes what should have been obvious at the time.
The song's opening lines express a sense of shock and disappointment, as the singer admits that she never really knew her partner and that she was blindsided by the end of the relationship. She admits that she was addicted to the idea of the relationship and that she foolishly thought it would work out. The lyrics suggest that the singer was well aware of the problems in the relationship, but chose to ignore them in the moment.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the idea that making mistakes is a natural part of life, and that it's possible to think you're in love when you're really just in pain. The singer's mother and a lawyer both question her judgment in falling for someone who was clearly wrong for her, but the singer acknowledges that sometimes people just fall in love with the wrong person. Ultimately, the song suggests that even though the relationship was painful, it was still worth experiencing, as it has provided the singer with a valuable lesson.
