Stop Waiting On The World To Change
Asher Roth feat. John Mayer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One, two, one, two, three

Me and all my friends
We're all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing and
There's no way we ever could
Now we see everything that's going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it

So we keep waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change

It's hard to beat the system
When we're standing at a distance
So we keep waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change

Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would have never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door
And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want

That's why we're waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change

It's not that we don't care
We just know that the fight ain't fair
So we keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change

And we're still waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change

One day our generation
Is gonna rule the population
So we keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
No we keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
Waiting on the world to change

Waiting on the world to change
Waiting on the world to change.

Overall Meaning

The song "Stop Waiting on the World to Change" by Asher Roth featuring John Mayer explores the feelings of disillusionment and powerlessness in the face of societal issues. The first verse establishes a feeling of being misunderstood and dismissed by those in power, leading to a sense of frustration and hopelessness. The chorus repeats the idea of waiting on the world to change as a response to feeling incapable of making a meaningful impact.

The second verse suggests that the key to effecting change is through gaining power and having a hand in shaping the information that people receive. The idea of bringing neighbors home from war and ending the suffering that families experience as a result is presented as an example of what could be achieved if those with power would listen to the concerns of those who feel powerless.

The bridge brings a glimmer of hope, expressing faith in future generations and their ability to change the world. However, the repetition of "waiting on the world to change" throughout the song suggests that there is still a long way to go.

Overall, the song presents a powerful message about the need for change and the frustration and sense of helplessness that can accompany the struggle for social justice.

Goddamn! This is one of the most overlooked samples/collaborations of all time. Asher Roth and John Mayer were 2 of the most popular artists in the world at this point. Excellent cover and combination! Waiting on the fuckin world to change

This is only the second Asher song I've heard, the previous being The Day I Got Crowned. This track is much better, less trying to be like Eminem more Kanye sounding. The guy is a lot better than I first gave him credit for his style is pretty diverse. I must check out more of his stuff.
