Asleep At The Wheel Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
My mind can't figure out what to do
But I've been disillusioned enough by love turned blue
Your love could be true but I wonder
Am I supposed to think your love will be true
And deny the part of me that says you'll leave me too
Cause yesterday reminds me that what I've lost is gone
I heard all your stories they ring well in my ears
But raise certain fears and doubts
Cause yesterday reminds me that what I've lost is gone
Your love may linger on but I wonder
I wonder yeah I wonder
The lyrics of "I Wonder" by Asleep at the Wheel describe the inner conflict of the singer who is in love with someone but is skeptical about the possibility of their love being true. The singer is overwhelmed by their emotions every time they are near the person they love, but at the same time, they cannot dismiss the possibility of getting hurt as they have experienced disillusionment from love before. The singer is in a dilemma about whether to believe in the potential of a happy ending with this new love interest or to protect themselves from possible heartbreak by not investing too much emotionally. The lyrics also allude to the fact that the singer has heard stories from the loved one that inspire hope, but there are still doubts and fears that linger from the past.
The use of metaphors in the song's lyrics is interesting as it shows the depth of the singer's emotions. The phrases "my heart jumps all about" and "raise certain fears and doubts" paint a picture of the singer's heart being pulled in different directions. The repetition of the word "wonder" in the lyrics also adds impact to the underlying theme of uncertainty.

388 people gave it thumbs down. How is that possible? Western swing is happy music and no one does it better than this band.

Not responsible for any dislike, but there is an element of jazz in this bands sound and a lot of people hate jazz, plus the best versions of this song for me tend to be by British 60's r n b bands who introduce a rawness into the song which grab me far more than this. I like this bands authenticity but not everything they do

Ray and the band are incredible. They've been doing this over 40 years. Never quitting or compromising. Sometimes working just for food. They've stuck to it. I love their music and will always be a fan. They deserve everything they are enjoying. They've earned it.

I've told my wife if she wakes up some morning and thinks that I have died that before calling the undertaker put some head phones on me and plug this song in. If there is an ounce of life left in me my right leg will start pumpin and I will soon be up and jumpin around.
