Asleep At The Wheel Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Can't stand your evil ways
Goin' home tomorrow
Can't stand your evil ways
When you're around me
I'm full of misery all day
I can't go on this way
I can't go on
I can't go on this way
You don't want my loving
So I'm going away to stay
Don't try to find me
Don't ever call me on the phone
Don't try to find me
Don't ever call me on the phone
I'm better off without you
So won't you leave poor me alone
The lyrics to Asleep at the Wheel's "Goin" reflect a sense of desperation and conveys the emotions of a person who has had enough of their partner's mistreatment. The song expresses the idea of leaving an abusive relationship because it has become unbearable. The lyrics, "Goin' home tomorrow, can't stand your evil ways," exemplify this idea by demonstrating that the singer has reached his breaking point.
The second verse, "when you're around me, I'm full of misery all day," communicates how the singer's partner affects their mood and, consequently, their whole life. They feel like they cannot go on this way any longer and chooses to leave, as shown in the chorus, "I can't go on, I can't go on this way. You don't want my loving so I'm going away to stay."
In the final verse, the message of leaving the past behind and moving forward is emphasized. The lyrics "don't try to find me, don't ever call me on the phone" indicate that the singers past relationship is over, and he or she does not want to look back. The repeated phrase "I'm better off without you" signifies that the singer has recognized that leaving is the best decision to make.
