Cause the reason I just don't know
But I've got a little gal down in Houston
And I've got lots of friends in San Antone
Don't ask me why I'm going to Texas
Why in all the world am I here
Cause I do love to hear those Texas fiddles
From Austin up to Dallas, Amarillo to el paso
You can here bob wills bill mack and me on your radio
Don't ask me why I'm going to Texas
It's just the kind of placed where I should be
Yea there's a lot of room
Beneath that southern moon
Texas your a good ol' state by me
Uah
From Austin up to Dallas, Amarillo to El Paso
You can here bob wills bill mack and me on your radio
Don't ask me why I'm going to Texas
It's just the kind of placed where I should be
Say there's a lot of room
Beneath that Texas moon
Texas your a good ol' state by me
Texas your a good ol' state by me
The lyrics to Asleep At The Wheel's song "Don't Ask Me Why" are about the singer's inexplicable desire to go to Texas. He doesn't know why he wants to go, but he knows there's a little gal he wants to see in Houston and plenty of friends to catch up with in San Antone. The lyrics praise the state of Texas and list off some of the cities and towns the singer loves to visit. He mentions famous Texan musicians like Bob Wills and Bill Mack and how much he loves listening to Texas-style fiddles. By the end of the song, he concludes that he just loves being in Texas and that it feels like the kind of place he should be.
The song is a love letter to the state of Texas and its unique music and culture. The singer's desire to go there is almost instinctual and he doesn't need a reason to want to be there. He's drawn to the state's big cities and small towns alike and embraces the Texan way of life. The mention of famous musicians like Bob Wills and Bill Mack reinforces the idea that Texas is a hub of country music and that it's a place where musicians can thrive.
