Long around about June
I'll be walkin' with sugar
'Neath that old sugar moon
Gonna drop her a line
To expect me soon
Saccharine and some sugar
I can see us right now
She'll get the calendar down
Scratch your circle around
Day we're altar bound
When it's sugarcane time
Long around about June
Wedding bells will be chining
'Neath that old sugar moon
When it's sugar moon shines
Long around about June
I'll be walkin' with sugar
'Neath that old sugar moon
All the kisses I missed
I'll be gettin' 'em soon
Sugar kissed from sugar
'Neath that old sugar moon
Oh, I'm dreaming sweet dreams
All the lovin' I'll get
When I get back to my pet
Lordy how I, my friend
Til it's sugarcane time
Long around about June
And I'll be walkin' with sugar
'Neath that old sugar moon
Walkin' with sugar 'neath that old sugar moon
The lyrics to Asleep At The Wheel's song Sugar Moon evoke feelings of nostalgia and longing, as the singer reminisces about the good times he's had and looks forward to reuniting with his loved one. The song is set against the backdrop of sugarcane season, which runs from May through late November, with the peak harvest season in June. During this time, farmers across the South and Southwest harvest acres of sugarcane, which is used to produce sugar, molasses, and other sweeteners.
At the start of the song, the singer talks about how he'll be "walkin' with sugar" beneath the old sugar moon. He plans to drop her a line and let her know he's coming soon, so they can be together beneath the moon that they've likely spent many sweet nights under before. The singer can see them now, with his beloved marking the calendar for the day they'll be "altar-bound". He dreams of all the kisses he missed and will soon get from his sugar, under that same old sugar moon.
The lyrics to Sugar Moon are romantic and wistful, capturing the simplicity and sweetness of love in a bygone era. The sugarcane season serves as a metaphor for the fleeting nature of life and the importance of making the most of the time we have with our loved ones. Whether you're a fan of classic country music or simply enjoy a good love story, this song is sure to tug at your heartstrings.

This one reminds me of when I was a little girl walking down the hill with my pockets full of sugar cubes to feed to the little horse I loved. Then I got yelled at by the little boy Jack who owned him because I called the horse Brownie and his name was Red.
