Let It Snow
Asleep at the Wheel Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!
It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I've bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm
The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still goodbying
But as long as you love me so
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!
Asleep At The Wheel's rendition of Let It Snow is a jolly and jubilant holiday song. Upon first listen, the song seems to be a call for snow to fall so that the singer and their companion can enjoy a cozy night by the fire. However, upon further listening, the song's true meaning reveals itself. The song is about the warmth and love shared between two people, even in the face of a harsh winter storm.
The song begins with the singer acknowledging the frightful weather outside, but also the delightful warmth of the fire. The singer then confesses that since they have nowhere else to go, they might as well embrace the snowfall. At this point, the song takes a turn and the singer reveals that they have bought some corn for popping and turned down the lights. These are all activities associated with a cozy night in, sheltered from the cold.
In the final stanza, the song takes on a more romantic tone. The singer talks about the warmth they will feel if held tight by their companion. They also mention that, despite the fire dying and the night coming to a close, as long as they are loved, everything will be alright. The snow, then, is a metaphor for the trials and tribulations that come with any relationship, but the warmth and love shared between the two people will always persevere.
Overall, Let It Snow is a thoughtful and heartwarming holiday song, reminding us all of the importance of love and companionship during the coldest and darkest times of the year.
