Exotic Animal Paradise
Asobi Seksu Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
you better not be lying
all the things you find out
I just find tiring
our TV's blasting
our words dividing
like little kids now
with faces hiding
I don't know what to say
cause we don't have the words
we'll throw it out it's empty
we don't have the words
if there's a reason
for all this crying
you let me know
while you're deciding
Exotic Animal Paradise by Asobi Seksu is a song that talks about a relationship that is falling apart. The lyrics allude to the possibility of the couple breaking up but the singer is unsure of this. The opening line "you say you'll move on, you better not be lying" indicates that the other person has expressed the desire to move on but the singer is questioning if the person is genuine about it. The next few lines are a complaint about the communication breakdown in the relationship. The things that the other person discovers are tiring to the singer and even though they are physically in the same space, they are disconnected. The TV is blasting and they are not talking to each other, instead, they are acting like little kids with faces hiding.
The chorus of the song is about how the singer doesn't know what to say because they don't have the words. They are not able to express themselves, and are unable to articulate what they are feeling. They also understand that throwing out the problem is empty and won't help them if they don't have the words to talk about it. The last verse asks the other person if they would explain the reason for all the crying, and let them know when they have decided.
