Although Bryant was never Atlantic Starr's only lead singer -- Wayne and David Lewis also provided their share of lead vocals -- she was a major asset. So it came as quite a disappointment when she left Atlantic Starr in 1984 to pursue a solo career. But all was not lost. The talented Barbara Weathers was hired as a replacement and 1985's As the Band Turns -- Atlantic Starr's first post-Bryant album and sixth album overall -- found the outfit unveiling a smaller lineup that consisted of Weathers, the Lewis Brothers, and Phillips. Sudderth, Daniels, Archer, and Carroll were all gone, but despite those personnel changes, Atlantic Starr was still distinctive and recognizable. As the Band Turns, which contained the major hit "Secret Lovers," turned out to be Atlantic Starr's last album for A&M; in 1987, they moved to Warner Bros. and fared well with the album All in the Name of Love and the smash hit "Always." A syrupy adult contemporary ballad, "Always" reflected the Lewis Brothers' desire to have the type of crossover success that Whitney Houston and Lionel Ritchie had been enjoying in the '80s; they got their wish when "Always" soared to number one on both the pop and R&B charts.
After All in the Name of Love, Weathers left the band to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Porscha Martin, who was featured on 1988's We're Movin' Up. Martin was around for a few years before being replaced by Rachel Oliver (Atlantic Starr's fourth female vocalist) in the early '90s. Atlantic Starr's relationship with Warner Bros. ended after 1991's Love Crazy, and in 1994, the band recorded one album for Arista: Time. That album was a commercial disappointment and the single "I'll Remember You" only made it to the fifties on Billboard's R&B and pop singles charts. Time (which was David Lewis' last album with the band) found a fifth female singer, Aisha Tanner, replacing Oliver. And when 1999's Legacy was distributed by the small, independent Street Solid label, Atlantic Starr unveiled yet another lineup -- one that consisted of two Lewis Brothers (Wayne and Jonathan) as well as Oliver (who had returned and replaced Tanner) and a new male singer named DeWayne Woods. Although Legacy received very little attention, Atlantic Starr hung in there and was still performing for die-hard fans when the 21st century arrived.

I'll be in debt to you forever
I was down and out, nowhere to turn to
No one to tell about my fears
Lovesick, ready to lose my mind
And about to drown in my own tears
Every love I had would never last
Then you came along and you changed my situation
Now all my pain is in the past
Then I want to thank you for all the love you've given
Just when I needed it so bad
I'll be in debt to you forever
You're the greatest love I ever had
Love was just a game as far as I was concerned
I never could hold it in my hands
Oh, just when I would think that it was for real
It was a mirage in the burning sand, oh
And then came the doctor, he came right on time
He checked my heart, it was fading fast
Then you gave to me, the right medication
You gave me love that's gonna last
And I wanna thank you, yeah
For all the love you've given
Just when I needed it so bad
Ooh, and I'll be hooked to you forever
You're the greatest love I ever had, ooh
Thank you, baby, oh
(Thanks)
For the love you've given me
Ooh, thank you, baby, ah, ah
(Thanks)
Gimme your love, gimme your love, gimme your love, yeah
(Thanks)
And I want you to know how much I love you
Thank you, baby
You know you make me feel so right
(Thanks)
Loving you is so out of sight
And I thank you for all the love you've given
Just when I needed it so bad
Ooh, and I'll be in debt to you forever
You're the greatest love I ever had, ooh
Thank you, thank you, thank you
Sweet thing you know I never had a love like you, girl
I'll be in debt to you forever
You're the greatest love
I never had it so good, had it so good
Thank you, thank you
For all the love you've given
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Ooh, and I'll be in debt to you forever
You're the greatest love I ever had, yeah
Thank you
Thanks for the love you've given
You know ya could be the love, baby
I'll be in debt to you forever
You're the greatest love I ever had
"Thank You" by Atlantic Starr is a love song about gratitude for a significant other who has shown nothing but love and support. The singer expresses how they were once lost and about to give up on love before their special someone came along. Losing faith in love is a common experience, and the singer's situation echoes with many listeners. The lyrics suggest that without the love and help of their partner, they would be nowhere. They go on to explain that they have always been in search of true love, but all their previous relationships failed to bring enduring love into their life.
The singer acknowledges the fact that not every relationship is going to work out, but with the right person, love feels so good, and life's uncertainties seem easy to bear. The chorus is where the song's primary message resides, as the singer repeatedly thanks their partner for all the love they have given, exactly when they needed it. The song carries a deeper meaning, which is how every relationship should be. Relationships should be there to comfort and support each other and recognize their efforts. The song emphasizes that having someone who loves you and stands by your side is something to be thankful for.
