The release was first teased on April 17 on Facebook.

A different version was recorded in 2020 and featured on the animated film, Wolfwalkers.

A remix by Pablo Nouvelle was released on deluxe versions of AURORA's debut album.

AURORA started writing the song at age 13 and has mentioned writing the song during a blood moon in 2014, presumably on April 14-15. She recorded various field recordings and used them in this song, such as sounds of a wooden stick on a fence, breathing and the sound of AURORA hugging a tree; "which had no sound, but it's on the album."

"Running With The Wolves" is about freedom and joining nature again, getting away from phones, radio and all we keep around us. In an interview with The 405, AURORA said: "I just imagined the moon turning all the people around the world into wild animals, running away from all the rules, all the materialism, and technology. Just being a part of nature again, running free."

The promo text for the song states: "The song is about having the animal instinct inside you come to life. Running with them, joining them - the instinct taking over, giving you freedom and making you forget about your human self and all things we humans keep around us in the modern society. I think humans need to let go a bit more, shake their bodies more often, like the animals do.. It's a beautiful thing really. Sometimes when you look at the world, and you see what we've done to it, the way many of us hurt the world we live in, innocent animals, even our own kind! And that kind of makes you want to follow the wolves instead. At least for one night."

The song peaked at #72 on the official German songs chart, where it remained for 13 weeks until its exit from the chart. It was presented at the P3 Gull (Norwegian Award), where AURORA was nominated for New Artist of the Year and at the European Border Breakers Awards (now named Music Moves Europe Awards), where AURORA won and was nominated in the following categories: Norwegian Album of the Year and Public Choice Award, respectively. AURORA represented her homecountry Norway at the award.

There's an Irish movie company that have made several really great cartoon/animation films with really nice music and such a lovely story in all of them. The Secret of Kells, The Song of the Sea and the latest Wolfwalkers where this song is in the most happy and beautiful scenes, with two wolf/human-girls running through the woods and having fun. I highly reccommend all of these films for your child and yourself, if you like Aurora. I live perhaps a half hour away from Aurora, and it's so cool that she have become such a "celeb", and instead of the usual empty-minded, sex-obsessed and shallow artists around, she's really special, totally herself and don't have to act, but is the best she can be, when she is herself. 🙂

I'm not saying it's a good or a bad thing, just different. I assure you I personally know many intelligent people who like mainstream "stupid" singer and won't like Aurora, that doesn't make them less intelligent, they just have different taste of music (or, according to some pretentious people, "lesser taste of music").

Idk why i love this so soooo so much. It’s such an indescribable feeling. All i can say is that it makes me think of my life, the ones before me and somehow provokes my curiosity in mythology that includes wolves. I’ve felt it in many movies, many books. I felt it when I finished the movie Nimona and after watching WolfWalkers. You know there’s a deeper message but you just can’t get what it is. It leaves you with a heavy feeling that is a bunch of emotions mixed together. Again, indescribable.

@@luisahomura8527 yeah I relate, I think I am pretty susceptible to caring too much about what I think people want or like from me vs what would actually be best for me, and I'm trying to teach myself that the only expectations I should care about are my own, and even if I can't control what people think of me, what I can control is the power I give to it and how much I let it affect me. It's not easy to do but I hope over time I'll come to learn that life is too short to live a life by someone else's rules, and that the thing that will make me happiest in the end is doing and learning what I want, rather than what others want, and I hope that you can eventually learn to live that way and feel more free too. Living to please others will only make you miserable, and that's no way to live. It's hard not to feel like you need to give others everything you can, but you can be much more at peace with yourself once you accept that no matter what you do it won't be enough for everyone, so long as it's enough for you that's all that matters <3 I love demon slayer btw haha
